Gums

Over the last few days my gums have been soreish and they bleed really easily. Anything I can do to help with it? AND I have wisdom tooth that I didn't get removed before I got pregnant, BFP happened the same month I was going to get it removed...it looks like it's getting infected, no pain around it just a little puss (sorry tmi) I think it's cause the tooth isn't all the way in so there's stuff getting down in the gums cause I can't brush it right...the same thing happened to the other one on the bottom left side of my mouth, before I had it removed. SO...2nd almost 3rd trimester, can I have it removed? Do I need to call my OB before I call a dentist, we don't have a dentist set up here yet.

You can't get it removed I do not believe. I know that they won't even do fillings if you are pregnant and advise to get it done soon after you deliver. However maybe speak to your doctor about it because if there is puss that means its infected and the benefits may outweigh the risks in this one.

I would see a dentist, call your OB first.  If it's an infection risk to you or the baby it should be fixed.  See a dentist the worst they can say is come back after you have the baby, but maybe they can help.  good luck.

Your gums are bleeding because of the hormones from the pregnancy. A lot of women have heightened sensitivity and bleed like that during and pregnancy and while they are nursing. My mother, who happens to be my dentist, gave me peroxyl to flush my mouth out with, but there is really nothing else you can do.

I have had major dental work done during both of my pregnancies. The numbing medication they give you is strictly local and will not pass to the baby. The only thing they really can't do is give you gas and they try not to take x- rays. An infection can cause major harm to you specifically. I have a friend that ended up in a coma for 2 months because she had severe infections in her mouth that she ignored. They ended up having to pull almost all of teeth and she has gone through lots of reconstruction just to look normal again.

My gums bled during each of my pregnancies, but worse this last time with Gil - and it seemed to get worse the further on I was in the pregnancy, too.  I don't know that there's anything you can do for that, truthfully (sorry....I know all too well how gross it is...and how worried you can get about smiling and ending up having blood all over your teeth/gums or something, lol)

As for the dental work part of your question.....I'd call your OB first and she what they say.  Depending on the seriousness of it - whether it can wait until after you deliver or not - they may let you go for it.
