HCG Levels

by Gerry774, May 06, 2009 10:55AM
Hi

I had a question about HCG levels.  I'm about 5 weeks pregnant.  I took my first blood work on April 30th and then again on May 4th. The front desk girl said my HCG levels doubled from the 30th to the 4th.  She didnt give me any details to numbers or anything and I think she might not know too much about it since shes just the secretary.  The doctor was not there to talk to me, so my question is, is it normal to double like that, and is this a good sign. Thanks.

They are supposed to double, so it sounds okay to me.  Next time, ask if she can give you the numbers.  You can look up online what the normal HCG ranges are for your particular week in pregnancy.  I had to get mine checked twice a week for the past 6 weeks b/c of past problems.  As long as they double or come close to doubling every 72 hours, then that's perfect!

Yea, as long as your numbers double every 48-72 hours, that's a good thing! You may have to speak with the doc directly to get your numbers. Congrats!

Like the others said, they are supposed to double every 48-72 hours.  You can google hcg levels and see the ranges, but they are very wide ranges, so don't get freaked out if you're on the lower end.  I was on the lower end but the doctor said not to worry, as long as their doubling everything is ok.  But I would call them for the numbers, just so you can have some answers and not wonder if something is wrong.

I'd call back and ask for a nurse or a doctor to give you your results to ease your mind!
