HOCM & Prenancy

Hi Doctor,

I was diagnosed with HOCM this January. I am currently under Beta-Blocker. At the same time, I am just confirmed being pregnant.

I would like to know:
1) any risk on me during pregnancy as I am HOCM patient?
2) what is the effect of Beta-Blocker to me & the baby?

I'm not sure what HOCM is....I'm assuming blood pressure related?

What you need to do is discuss this and the risks of your medications with your doctor, thats very important that you do this ASAP!

. Look on the American Pregnancy Association or just go to Google or Askjeeves.com and type in

"what category medicine is ...." and type the name of your med.
Type a and B are mostly safe I believe, Type C is associated with a few birth defects, but you always wanna outweigh the benifits against the harm it can cause. Good Luck and Congrats!!!
