Having trouble breathing! Now I am very concerned!

by Linzola1, Oct 26, 2008 11:41AM
This is getting crazy with all Julians eating problems and being sick! I took him to the church nursery and he was the only baby there today and the lady said when she tried to feed him it was as if he was having trouble breathing!!! I have been doing some research and I am beginning to think he is allergic to soy!!!! His formula has soy in it his cereal has soy in it and he has this red ringaround his anus that has not gone away! At first I thought it was a rash but I have been applying Nistatin as well as Desitin and its still there after a few weeks! I just now found in my research that is a common thing that doctors look for an allergy! What is your oppinion!

Did he happen to have an allergic reaction to regular formula as well?  If so, you need to take him in to the hospital if so, and have him checked.  And then you'll need to get on a formula that isn't soy or milk based.  It is common, and that is what they look for, for an allergy!

I agree. I would bring this up to your doctor or Pedatrician. If he is indeed allergic to both milk and soy based formula's you can try the Nutramigen AA formula like I suggested last time. It is an Amino Acid based formula and does not contain milk or soy protiens.

I have Conner on Nutramigen with Lipil, and it has worked wonders for his colic, I really think it is something you should think about asking your doctor. There are other Amino Acid based formula's out there, but Enfamil has better nutritional benefits than Similac. Similac doesn't offer Lipil in many of their products, and lipil helps with the development of eyes and the brain. It has the same protien in it as breastmilk.

Bring the formula in. Also, You can try giving him some Infant or Childrens benadryl drops/syrup. My son is 7 1/2 lbs and takes 4cc (ml's) according to the pharmacists suggestion. it works great at drying them up and clearing airways. Plus if it is an allergic reaction it should help lessen symptoms. I'd suggest getting a dr's appointment ASAP because if a person is continually exposed to an allergen (particular ones) it can lead to anaphylactic Shock or worse.. my stepdad (RIP) was allergic to Keflex the antibiotic. He had taken it for years with no issues. Took it once and got itchy. Took it again a few weeks later got itchy with Hives, and took it a third time and nearly had to go to the hospital because he almost couldn't breathe.  He had to take a ton of benadryl to counteract the effects and it probably saved his life.
