Help with Hearburn!!!

by precious03, Apr 10, 2008 09:14PM
My heartburn has gotten so bad!!!  I have been trying tums and rolaids.  I don't eat anything spicy or anything that used to give me heartburn, but it is terrible.  The acid burns so bad it hurts in my chest and keeps jumping up and hitting the back of my throat!!  I called the doc earlier, but he never called me back, so I don't know what else I can take that is safe.  Especially home rememdies for tonight, as we are in the middle of a blizzard and are supposed to get up to 15in of snow, I don't want to try driving in this to a drug store!!  Any suggestions, I will try!!  Thanks ahead of time!!

Hey- I'm in St. Paul and in the same storm but it's ice here...  A friend was put on Pepcid for her heartburn when she was pregnant - her son was breech and had his little head right on her stomach - her heartburn was bad.  She had to sleep with extra pillows and avoid eating late - good luck!

yep, breech baby here too!!  This storm SUCKS!!!  My SIL live in the cities!!  I have been trying the elevated head at night, that seems to help while I'm sleeping!  Just need something for the rest of the time that I am awake!!

The best thing i did for my heartburn with both of my pregnancies was drink alot of milk and if you tried that then when you feel it come up to your throat as quick as you can chew up 3 or 4 antacids and it will chase it down so the next time the acid comes back up it wont be as bad. What i found that seems to work real well for me is the cheap dollar store tums, you know if you shop there or whatnot

I've been drinking a lot of milk, but my sister who is an RN said that milk can curdle the stomach acid and make heartburn worse!!

Mylanta works.

I've heard heartburn = baby that has lots of hair!!! My cousin had a baby who had a ton of hair and she had the worst heartburn in her life during the pregnancy. A recent study was done and this is actually very accurate.

Eating bread may help because it will soak up the acid that is causing you pain.

ooh, didn't think of the bread.  I'm gonna try that!  Yep, I have had heartburn with my other two, and they were both born with tons of hair!!!
