Hold the phone... REAL DUE DATE????

Hold the phone... REAL DUE DATE????

Okay so on Wednesday, February 27, 2008... I went to the ER to get an ultrasound done on my baby to see how things are going since I don't have a doctor down here.

And the lady there told me that my baby was still at very early stages and would give me only say the baby looks about 7w5d and that I'm due October 10th.

But just now I just really started thinking... that's not possible because my period ALWAYS run on a 28 day coarse, and my last period was December 26th, 2007, which means I must have conceived sometime between January 9th - 16th.

The calculations the lady made meant that the first day of my last period would have started on the 4th, which isn't correct AT ALL.
So that means when she said that my baby was only 7w5d, I was actually 9 weeks exactly because every wednesday I start a new week according the first day of my last period.

Which means today, being April 13th, I and 15w5d... not 14w5d or whatever the hell I thought I was.
Which would make me due October 1st instead of October 10th. Or somewhere around that.

Ugh I don't even know anymore!
I'm not good with math!

If anyone is better at math than I am, tell me if you can figure out exactly how far along I am, and when my due date is.

So if you can find out from my last period 12/26/07, I'd REALLY appreciate if you could help me out.
Cuz now my hubby n I are confused outta our minds!

I guess that I found out that not only should I take advice from ER regular doctors, but also not to take them from stupid ER ultrasound b*tches either!
lol

I know that the u/s can be a lil bit off, but still, I tried to tell her that I didn't think it made sense, but she was certain so I went with it up until now that I REALLY started thinking.

Thanks!

If your last period was December 26th then your due date would be October 1st. Which is what it sounds like the ER tech said.

The ER doc said I was due Oct 10th or so.
And she also said that I was only 7w5d at the time aswell.
But really, if you put the numbers together of the TRUTH I was actually 9w exactly and I'm due the 1st.

they always stick with the first one cuz its more accurate.Thats what my doctors have told me over the years even though ultrasounds change my due dates over and over.

Ultrasounds can be off by a week during the first trimester. I would go with your LMP since that is what you are supposed to do.

Yeah that's what I figured since they go by it anyways.
Well atleast I think I got this settled.
Just means I'm a week farther along than I thought. lol

Yea i forgot about the LMP (blonde moment).Thats prob why they told me they have to go by my first ultrasound, becuase i didnt have a period for a year straight prior to getting prego.

You can ovulate whenever, so I would go with the ultrasound. And it's not off by that much, so I wouldn't worry. Yes the ultrasound can be off, but they are telling you what they see. Your baby may be small, or you may be wrong in the ovualtion/conception/implantation dates.

my last period was on 20th dec 07 and my due date is 25th sep 08. so yes your should be 1st oct 08.

I know with myself personally (why I said go by the ultrasound) my LMP and gestational age were 3 days different. I ovulated right after my period ended (within hours) and got pregnant. So the gestational age isn't always going to be two weeks after the LMP date. If it was they would never have to do ultrasound for dating, we would all already know. And the ultrasound is going to tell you the gestational age, so you have to take your LMP date and take off two weeks (in the "perfect/ideal" situation) to get the real gestational age. Also your LMP due date is just a guess untill they do the ultrasound to tell you the age of the baby and give you your real due date.

Well I was told, and I've read on several different sites online, that they count the first day of your pregnancy as the first day of your last period you had BEFORE you got pregnant.

The reason why they do this is because each month, your body gets ready for pregnancy, starting with the cleansing of your uterus aka Your Period.
And the egg is USUALLY sent down 2 weeks later.
I know when I ovulate cuz I cramp.
Some other women on here do too.
But I couldn't remember the dates exactly but I DO know it was within that week.

So I'm not going by the last period I MISSED, I'm going back my last period I actually HAD because that's what I'm supposed to do.

The ER lady was very wrong, because of A] it was REALLY too early to give me a totally RIGHT answer. and B] most ER doctors aren't the smartest doctors.

I'll find out from a REAL doctor if either I, or she was correst here in a few weeks.

But for now, I'm gunna go by what I found out last night.
And until then, I guess that's all I got because I KNEW what she said didn't make any sense.

The egg does not always come 2 weeks after your period. It WILL come 12-16 days before your next intended period. Your last menstrual period is not a basis for ovulation. It's the opposite. You can cramp for days before, during, and after ovulation. So it could have been you ovulated sooner/later/on time. Who knows?! Pregnancy is a miraculous thing and it's almost impossible to pinpoint exactly what is going on as every little bean is different. That is why they go by the LMP since it's difficult to pinpoint exact conception.

Nevertheless, your due date should be calculated based on your LMP unless at your 20-week ultrasound they find baby a little smaller or a little larger than average. They may change it per baby's development.

October is an awesome month to have a baby! It's my favorite month of the year!!!

Yeah October's my fave month too.
And it'd be cool because my hubby's birthday is September 14th.
My birthday is November 16th.
We were both born in 1989.
So it'd be cool that this baby would be born at somepoint in October!
lol

I heard that first time mommies can end up passing their due dates and perhaps even going to 42 weeks instead of the normal 40?

What happens if the baby's in there longer than it's supposed to?
Is it considered hazardous?

Usually docs wont let you go past 42 weeks... if your baby is doing ok in the womb they tend to let you go until yoor water breaks.. if theres a problem before that they will induce you :o)

MY bday is Nov 15th, DH's Bday is nov 11th, Our anniversary is Sept9th and I'm due sept 13th. What's with ppl always having kids around theyr important dates? CRAZY

don't worry too much, but if your doctor tries to let you go past 42 weeks you need to INSIST on being induced. Know why:? it's because once you hit 40 weeks the placenta starts to deteriorate. It's only meant to keep a baby alive and give nutrients for about 40 weeks (even tho it will continue to do so for a couple weeks past that) but what do you think will happen when it starts to break down? The baby may have problems or get too big requiring a C-section. This is all what I learned from my mom who studied nursing and also watched her best frind not get delivered on time (she had issues)

haha that's so awesome that your b-day is the day before mine!
lol
And even the fact that your baby's due the day before my hubby's b-day!
lolol

Lets see, Josh's b-day is Sept.14th.
My Baby's due Oct. 1st.
Our 2 year anniversary is Nov. 12th.
And my birthday is Nov. 16th.

haha I dunno what that is about people having kids around their important date.
lol
Maybe it's just meant to be so we remember easier with things close together. lol

LMP - Las Menstrual Period. not missed period
I also know when I ovulate because I cramp as well. But I ovulate all different times of month (or possibly twice missing the first time because of period cramping)

The tech would have just been telling you what she saw, it may be measuring smaller at this time and in a couple weeks it will be where you think it should be. Babies all grow at their own rate over the first while, why it is said u/s can be up to a week off. As for E.R. doctors not being the smartest, most E.R. doctors are General Practitioners who take rounds in the E.R. and know the same as any doctor. They are at a disadvantage because they don't have your whole history. I know I have personally walked into the E.R. many times only to have my GP treat me.

Riot_Queen, I had my first daughter 2 days before her due date. So not all first time mommas go past their due dates! If you do they'll induce you. And depending on those circumstances, you can still deliver vaginally or schedule a c-section. But that's quite a ways off still!!!

In my experience they always go by early u/s because going my LMP is always accurate.  Babies all grow at the same rate during the early stages thats why they can give you a due date based on its size.

My doctor said never to go with LMP, they only use that until they ultrasound confirms. H e said the ultrasound is more accurate than the LMP, because things could happen that would put you later than you think, such as ovulating late things like that. SO, I'd go with the u/s not your LMP.

Yeah I know not all first timers go past cuz my mama had me on Nov. 16th when I was due Nov. 28th. So that's almost like 2 weeks early. lol.
I was just wondering what happened if I were to pass my date.

so thanks ladies for all your answers.
Hopefully my mind will settle in a few weeks when I get set up with another doctor.
