How effective would you say the pull out method is?

So my bf and I just had our first child sept 2010 and we new that we wanted our children close together so we are going to start trying again in aug....i dont wanna go on birth control just for a few months so we are just doing the pull out method until we begin trying again.....does anyone know if their is a percent out there that they give for the pull out method? I know that you can still get preg with the pull out method but the chances have to be a lot less right?

I use a Natural Planning Method and it works fine (we don't pull out; I don't consider that a method). I don't know an actual failure/effective rate for pulling out though, sorry!

If you dont want more children just yet the last thing u wanna be doing is using the pull out method, you can still conceive from pre come and he will not know when this is happening..there are lots and lots of forms of birth control that may help i would have a chat with your GP and discuss your options
Good luck

Natural Family Planning - is a method of avoiding sex during times of fertility and having sex when the likelihood of conception is impossible. It isn't a foolproof method and takes careful charting and paying attention to your body. Birth control is not for me and by charting my body's changes I have found out about a fertility condition I developed after my second daughter was born (if I hadn't found that out I might not have had any more children).

A rough estimate is 27% failure rate. I don't even constitute or consider it to be any form of birth control personally. If you're only hoping for a few months though it might work well. He just has to have a lot of self control and know his body well. If he doesn't or mistimes it at all it will fail.

The pull out method is not effective, that is how I am pregnant with our second child now - LOL  We were going to start "trying" once my son turned one year old, but I got pregnant when he was 9 months old.  We would typically have sex shortly before or after my period, so out of what I thought was my ovulation window, and if it was in the middle of my cycle, my husband often pulled out.  But, all it took was one time for him not to, and bam!  Pregnant!  I usually have a 35 day cycle or so, and the time he thought he got me pregnant was actually early for when I thought I would have ovulated, but apparently that cycle was just a little different.  We are super excited since we didn't have to "try" after all, but if you seriously want to wait a little while, then use condoms or some other form of birth control, or you might get a sibling for your baby sooner than you thought! :-)

The "pull out-method" is not considered a type of birth control by any physician I know, as there is sperm in pre-ejaculation. You can use the natural family planning method, use condoms, etc until you are ready to try for baby #2, but I don't advise that you use the 'pull-out' method.
