How long after a m/c did you get pg?

by NicMom, Dec 03, 2007 07:05PM
Just had my first m/c and we're trying to look forward to giving it another shot. What I'm wondering is for those of you who have m/c before how long did it take for you to get pregnant again? My dr says wait one full cycle. What are the advantages of waiting another month vs. trying right away?

I wasn't allowed to have sex until I stopped bleeding for one full week after my miscarriage. It took about 4 weeks for my levels to return to 0 and then another 2 to get pregnant again. However I have heard of people getting pregnant before their first period and going on to have healthy pregnancies. The main reason doctors suggest that you wait is so that you can heal completely and for dating purposes. Good luck I hope you get your BFP soon! :)

The advantage of waiting for your first cycle is allowing your body, especially the uterus, to heal. A m/c is traumatic to your body. It may take a long time to get your period again (it took me 8 weeks). Also, it is easier to date a pregnancy when you've had a cycle. After my first period after my m/c, I became pregnant.

My pregnancy was fine and I gave birth to an 8 1/2 lb. healthy baby girl in March of this year. Honestly, waiting for my first cycle was "trying right away" to us. Just start trying when you feel ready. No one knows you better than you. :)

i had a d/c oct 30th, got my period 4 wks after and today at my doctor which i totally trust-heard is best to wait another period, meaning 2 cycles so that the uterus gets stronger and we don't have problems, serious ones besides miscarring again. better safe than sorry, i think. good luck

I was reading something this morning about this. If I can find the website again, I'll add that later. It said that not waiting until your timing is all figured out can really make things hard. For example, if you get pregnant before you know for sure when you are ovulating and expecting your period, you may end up having ultrasounds, hcg levels, heartbeats, etc, that all seem like they are not healthy, because you may be convinced that you are 6 weeks pregnant when you are really only 4. It basically said that it may make you a difficult patient, and the doctor will not be able to convince you that the baby is healthy, and normal, and that since your next pregnancy is going to be really difficult anyways, it is a good idea to wait a little bit to take at least one stress out of the picture.

Thanks to everyone who replied. At this point I think that we will wait a full cycle just incase.
