How to Prevent Stretch Marks When Pregnant?

by Mariah2010, Nov 03, 2009 06:08PM
JOHNSON'S Baby Oil Gel with Shea and Cocoa Butter, or regular baby oil? Or Palmers cocoa butter? My mother who had five children tells me she used Johnson's baby oil, and has no stretch marks! She's telling me to use the same... but my friends have used Palmers Cocoa Butter yet they have little stretch marks an my mom has none!.. but u always hear about cocoa butter and that it prevents stretch marks.... Which should i use?

I used Palmers and still got stretch marks but I gained 50 lbs (oops). I never thought of using Johnson's. For my second pregnancy I used Eucerine Calming Cream and I found that worked better since I didn't get any new marks. I've heard that if your mother didn't get them then you probably won't but that wasn't the case for me.  Take care of yourself and drink lots of water. Good luck!

Well I've heard that if your going to get them nothing really helps, but that said I used Palmers and didn't get a single one.

Good luck!

Unfortunately none of those will prevent stretch marks. They do, however, help deminish the appearance of them...over time. There is no way to actually prevent them. It all comes down to genes and even that is not a sure thing. My mom never got one mark, I lucked out till about week 35 and then I lost my luck. :( I didn't get too many but they are right up front so they look more pronounced. I used everything throughout my pregnancy, drank lots of water, ate well and exercised. Just keep your skin moist inside and out and cross your fingers. Best of luck to you. :)

there's  really no way to prevent stretchmarks. you can use lotion but it may not work. I call it baby prints! :)

I call them a badge of honor.......but then again I have tons! I used coco butter  and still got them. My mom on the other hand doesnt have a single strech mark on her body, ugh, I hate her, lol:-)

I checked with my dermatologist and he said creams will not help much. If you are destined to get stretch marks you will get them! But creams do help with dry skin though.
