I forgot to mention to you guys that................
DH is a twin( fraternal I think)... So that means maybe just maybe i will conceive twins....
However, they do say it skips a generation so maybe his son (16yrs old from previous relationship) will have the twins, that's scary, I completely forgot about that little part.
Hey, we have some twins on my mother's side. BUT, on DH's side it's his dad was a twin, then granddad's dad was a twin and so on. It goes way back and always skipped a generation. So, with that it would be DH's turn for twins. With our previous m/c's there were only singletons. We are currently TTC #3...so who knows. I always heard it was on your maternal side, but it wasn't for DH. Good luck!
Wow, that's great! If I'm remembering correctly all of the twins on DH's side have been fraternal, I think. I do know for sure that his dad's twin was fraternal and his great-granddad was fraternal. It's really amazing how twins (fraternal or identical) are.
I'M A TWIN AND THEY RUN ON MY MOTHERS SIDE. SO DERRICK AND DARYL ARE MY SECOND COUSIN WHO ARE 28, ME AND MY SISTER WHO ARE 25, CALVIN AND ELVIN WHO ARE 28 OR 29 YEARS OLD. CHOC AND RED ARE ABOUT 14 AND THEY ARE MY THRID COUSINS. AND TWO TWIN COUSINS WHO WERE M/C WOULD BE ABOUT 1 YEARS OLD. THEY ARE MY THIRD COUSINS AS WELL. SO THAT MAKES FIVE SETS. ONLY ONE SET OF GIRLS, AND ALL THOSE DARN BOYS.(4) GOOD LUCK. SO OUR SKIPPED A TWO GENERATION SO FAR. BUT I HAVEN'T HAD ANY KIDS YET. MY SISTER HAD ONLY SINGLE DERRICK AND DARYL HAD ONLY SINGLES, CALVIN AND ELVIN ONLY HAD SINGLES, CHOC AND RED AERE STILL YOUNG BUT THE M/C TWINS WERE FROM ANTHONY WHO ISN'T A TWIN AT ALL.. HOPE I HAVE TWINS.
However, all the books I have read clearly state that it is an old wives tale that it skips a generation and it is passed on the mothers side only.
The older you are the more likely you are to have twins and you are even more likely if you have them already.
It also says in my book that 50% of twins are conceived by IVF.
But one thing you gals might be interested in is that in Sweden their twin number doubled from 1.4 to 2.8% when mother were taking folic
acid for about 6 months before I conceived because I started taking it in preparation for trying and then it took me longer to get pregnant than I thought.........so go get your folic
So many twins, I am jealous lol! I always wanted a twin...and I think it would be neat to have twins! BUT they're aren't a single pair in either of our families so we have slim chances!
Hubby and I would *love* to have twins (he jokingly says "Good! We can get both our kids done at once!"). We only have identical twins in my family (my grandmother's sister had twin boys, and my aunt had twin girls). I'll definitely keep StressHead's folic acid intake in mind the next time we ttc!! =D
i'd love to have twins! but i think we'd have found "him" by now lol....
let's see, my cousins dee and lee are twins, chris and michelle are twins, my aunt nell lost twin boys at birth i THINK(or right before?)...my great-aunt flossie and aunt ruby i think were twins(there was a set, but i might have mixed up the sisters)...oh and it's funny, they say men determine the sex right? wellll, you'd think my whole maternal side was produced by the same fraternal side! my nannie was 1 of like 8 or 10 kids, the oldest, and i think there were only 3 boys....my nannie, had 8 girls! no boys....my aunt nell had the 3 girls(minus the twins lost), but then it gets funny, where it's 2 boys/1 girl, 1boy/1girl, or 2 boys/2 girls lol.....i'm the oldest of 4, with 2 of each sex...oh and we have alot more twins, but they've either passed very early on, or are in parts of the family we don't talk to nearly as often as the others(i mean like every 5 years or so at reunions lol)
Identical twins are just a coincedental occurence, there are no genetics involved. Fraternal twins on the other hand are a genetic occurence, but the woman has to have the gene on her side because she is the one dropping the eggs...lol. It doesn't matter if the man has twins on his side, but he could pass it to his daughter. My sister has twins, the 6th set on my mother's side and all fraternal. Some woman have the gene where they drop more than 1 egg....I'm trying for #2 and I am hoping the gene skipped me...couldn't imagine a 2 year AND twin newborns....lol.
Well i dont know any personally but i read a family history book where it said we had a set of boy twins born exactly one month b4 me and supposedly my generation would be having twins but so far no1 in my gen. has been able to even get pregnant!! Not me not my sis or my cousin!! so it may just skip us all 2gether!!
Fraternal twins happens when the Mother releases two Eggs and they are both conceived.
Identical twins happens when One Egg that gets conceived splits in two, and it forms two fetuses that are identical.
In no way is the male or father's genes responsible for having twins.
sorry but unless you released two eggs when you Ovulated this month, your chances of having twins is reduced.
u know i saw something bout that on TV this woman had IVF done and well only 2 eggs were viable and became babies but those 2 split down the middle like mumita is saying and she got 2 sets identical twins!! 2 boys and 2 girls!!
An article I read in the new scientist (before I found out I was having twins) said that studies have shown that women produce eggs as many as four times in one cycle but because of the hormones involved, they are never actually released. I had a funny cycle it was about 8 weeks since I had had a period and my OPK showed me to ovulate (but I didn't get pregnant) and then four weeks later my OPK was positive again. The Doc told me this was impossible and when I found out I was having twins I was certain that I knew the exact day of conception because we had only BD'd once (that day after the posititive OPK) BUT my babies are dating a week earlier than I thought and this has been confirmed on three scans now so it couldn't be that the dates are out. This means I ovulated three times in 8 weeks. AND on the middle ovulation I must have released two eggs because my twins are fraternal.
Also I have to mention this because when people said it to me I used to get annoyed but the day my twins were conceived was the only random day we BD'd without baby maing in mind so I guess all those people were right when they said focusing on getting pregnant wasn't helping........
My point!! is finally here........THINK POSITIVE. I really wanted twins too and I got them. Life always finds a way.......
Twins do skip a generation.
I was a twin (but my twin didnt fully develop), and my mom did tell me that they skip a generation so I wont have to worry about it (dont know if I would be able to handle two babies my first time around...!
