I have my first ultrasound booked... what should I expect?

Well I finally got my first ultrasound booked!!!  It seems so long away - it is on December 12th!  I have ultrasound before (for other medical reasons) but never for a pregnancy - any advice on what I should be expecting?

The first ultrasound is usually just to check the baby, make sure it's in the uterus, see how the baby has developed so far, date the pregnancy and see if there is a heartbeat.  It is truly amazing the first time you see your little bean.  Good luck!  The 12th will be here before you know it!

yup they will make sure that the pregnancy is intrauterine in the uterus,,how far along you are, if you are far enough they will check on heartbeat (very early you dont hear it but you see it around 6 weeks or so), they will check on the yolk sac and the baby will look like a vey vey tiny thing in a black hole and you will be able to see the sac that is coming out behind and it looks like a little bubble,,,Congrats you will definitely love it especially when you compare it with the later once you wont believe how far he/she is developed on you 20th week ultrasound!

Thanks!  I will be somewhere between 7 and 8 weeks (I do believe).  I will have an ultrasound at about 12 weeks, one at 20 weeks and I think one at 14 weeks (nuchal).  I can't wait!  

But in the mean time, I am definitely hating the sore boobs part and the constant thirst.... aahhhhh.....
