Im so scared :(

by chitten, Jan 22, 2008 04:32AM
Hi Girls

I know i prob sound really sill here but here goes.........

Well from a scan on 3nd Jan i should be about 9wk 2 day (although by my working 10 weeks 2 days)

At first i didnt want to keep this baby but i changed my mind. Since finding out i have had sore cramping in my lower abdomen - scans and blood tests ruled out an ectopic and my last HCG levels on 2nd jan were at 28513.

The thing is i have been doing alot of reading and im really panicking that due to my lifestyle before i found out i was expecting (going out, drinking and smoking and taking my pill everyday) and i am paraniod something will go wrong.

Apart from having thrush and these stomach cramps i have no complaints i just want to know how common a missed M/C is as im so scared that il come to have my scan in 3 or 4 weeks and find something is wrong.

I know i probably shouldnt have but i tested this morning just to make sure i was still getting a BFP and i did, however the line is nowhere near as dark as on previous tests. Could this mean something is wrong????

Thanks  xx

was it the same type of test as you used before was it first morning urine alot of things can effect the line on the tests if you are really worried make a app with your doc and take to him as it he can get you in for an earlier scan i help you settle stress is not good for you or your baby

by chitten, Jan 22, 2008 05:10AM
Would they scan me without any bleeding thought??

They scanned for the pain once before (on the 3rd Jan) and said all looked ok but im still really worried.

The test was the same brand but would the result be affected by the amount of urine i produced??

I was so nervous not much more than a dribble came out (sorry tmi) xx

by neasyc, Jan 22, 2008 05:14AM
if it was first morning urine it would have a higher hcg content
if you were under a lot of stress it would not hurt to tell the doc your fears and ask him to check it out the worst he can say is no

by Annie2008, Jan 22, 2008 06:06AM
I would ask for another scan if you feel that you want one done.  They would go ahead and probably do one if you told them your fears.

Something I learned though (especially with my first pregnancy) because I was worried about the drinking and smoking I have done before I found out I was pregnant.  They say this same thing in all the books and this is the same thing my soon to be sister-in-law told me:  Don't worry about the things you did before you found out you were pregnant.  It depends on what you do NOW since you found out that counts.

That helped me out.  I am not sure how common a missed m/c is, but I did have one, baby was gone at 6 weeks and I was supposed to have been 10 weeks.  Have you seen/heard the hearbeat yet?  Are you having any bleeding or cramping?  If you have seen/heard the heartbeat then you know your chances of m/c are lowered already - and if your HCG levels are doubling every 48-72 hours then your okay.  If no bleeding or cramping then your okay.  I knew something was wrong with me because I started bleeding and wouldn't stop - went to ER - had a scan and found no heartbeat.  Don't base anything on taking a pregnancy test and what the line looks like - they aren't there to tell you if your having a m/c or not.

I would first try to calm down (not good for baby to have momma stressed), call the office, explain your fears and get a scan scheduled.

hi , a poitive is a poitive ! try not to worry , im in uk too and they are not likly to scan you it is nhs you know ! lol .you are lucky to get normal scans . my mate mc in july and refused to scan at all . however no harm in asking . i tested about 10 times coz i was never convinced i was pg untill i got to 12 wks scan . you should be fine x x

by chitten, Jan 22, 2008 06:48AM
Annie2008- I saw the heartbeat at the scan on January 3rd. It was then that i decided i couldnt go through with an abortion. They said on the day i measured 6 weeks 3 days.

I have hed no bleeding at all but period like cramping the entire pregnancy. My Hcg levels went from 21838 on Dec 31st to 28513 on 2nd January. Doc said this was fine but they did not double. Is this normal???

Marra315 - Yes the NHS officially sucks! Im due my book-in with my midwife at home on 1st Feb - any idea how long after this i should have my first scan? Kinda feeling at the moment that they just leave you to sit out your fears :(

by kirsty702, Jan 22, 2008 06:53AM
Sit out your fears !!! you are not wrong i started to bleed on saturday not a lot but i had the doctor turn round to me and say ( i have never met this doctor) "you are only 21 and i guess you are not trying there is always next time" !! THE NHS DEFO SUCKS !! and i am still sat here not having a clue whats going on.  No one has taken blood or checked if my cervic is open !! i have to wait till thursday till a scan !

you're HCG levels look good, you're not bleeding, you've seen the heartbeat...these are all excellant signs.  Once you see the heartbeat the risk of m/c decreases approx 10 % and then once you enter the 2nd trimester (approx wk 13) it decreases even more.  Try to relax.  What you did before is done, you're not doing it anymore.  Obviously the baby was doing good AFTER you stopped that stuff becuase the scan was normal and so was the heartbeat.  Don't overstress yourself, that in itself can cause problems in a pregnancy.  Unless you start spotting, bleeding or having cramps that are worse than mentstrual cramps, try to calm down.... you'll be fine :)

Thanks - After all this worrying i cant believe i ever considered getting rid of my baby.

I just cant wait to hold them - or at least until my next scan (which is probably in 3 or 4 week) just to see its ok.

Ive been feeling less hungry today than lately (Normally im STARVING and no matter what i eat i constantly feel gassy and hungry) but think it may be stress.

Had a few cramp free days (the cramping is quite painful) but they came back last night.

My Hcg levels only rose by 7000 in a day and a half (between 31st Dec and 2nd jan) - is this normal? I read that the levels should double?

by LosingMyMindInGA, Jan 22, 2008 07:58AM
the levels should double every 48 to 72 hours so it may not have been enough time in between the tests for it to be fully accurate.  Just keep an eye on things and if you start to spot or bleed got to the hospital.  As for the lack of hungry and gassiness.  I've barely eaten anything in the last several weeks.  I started out feeling ravenous now I practically have to make myself eat and I'm CONSTANTLY gassy.

by chitten, Jan 22, 2008 08:11AM
I was a bit worried too as my nipple tenderness started to subside a bit but after the first time i got the pain (VERY VERY PAINFUL NIPPLES) it went away for 4 weeks then came back so i guess this could be normal too???

No i went to the doctors instead and i did the same test with the nurse as i did last week that came up with a +++ but today it was neg.  She didnt say that was it though sge said i could still be !! i am just confused !

May I ask how far along you were when you found out that you were pregnant?  I wouldn't worry about the behaviors of the past, as you have already made it this far.....And everything seems to be going well.  I had a missed M/C in Dec. and I had NO symptoms whatsoever......I felt fine, went for a routine 8 1/2 week U/S at which time they found twins measuring only 7 1/2 weeks with no heartbeats....You saw a heartbeat...That's awesome!  And no bleeding!  And your Hcg increased....There's a website that gives Hcg levels if you want to look at it.

Sorry to hear that your healthcase system is so bad.....I have to say though, my office in the states (whom I personally chose to go to) isn't much better!  Lots of luck to you!

by chitten, Jan 22, 2008 08:45AM
You should really buy a digital test - at this stage you would know for sure especially if you had already got a positive result before

by kirsty702, Jan 22, 2008 08:50AM
The nurse said just to wait till the scan now as i have had 2 neg tests i was just wondering if the same thing has happened to anyone else and if there hormone levels had dropped but everything turned out to be ok.  I didnt pass ant clots or tissues yet ! the nurse said i would now for sure with the scan as if nothing has changed since then then i will miscarry

I found out on 27th December - so i guess i must have been around 6 or 7 weeks (6 weeks as docs estimate - 7 weeks by mine)

I think im around 10 weeks now i should have a booking in scan around the begining / middle of feb im just stressing i guess.

I know im PG i just need that bit of reassurance that after this cramping the baby is ok

I have since named them Hippo - due to the massive increase in my appetite / stomach size lol - My ex (babys daddy) at birth was 12lbs 2oz so im guessing im gonna be in for a BIG baby :)

Figured calling it Hippo is better than "IT" as it has been for the past couple of weeks.

they will do a dating scan at first if you dont know your dates then  you get  one at 12 ,20 and 34 weeks . they will do more if a problem occurs . my gp told me they dont tell us hcg levels because of fear that they dont increase . i was booked at 10 weeks with mw and she booked my 12 week then and gimme the date at the appt .i was consultant lead and had to had 9 scans in the end because of my medical history .but they wont do one on request coz of stupid cost ! aint that what ni is spose be for ?

by Nadia77, Jan 22, 2008 01:41PM
with my previous pregnancy which ended up in a miscarriage when i went to my GP for the first app I told him I am having some cramping ... he sent me to do a scan at the hospital next day... i was returning to the hospital for further scans until 7 1/2 weeks, once the heart bit was confirmed they didn't want me to return for any more scans. But unfortunately at 12 weeks routine scan they found fetus has died at 8 1/2 weeks.

Now I am pregnant again and my GP surgery has been changed due to house move, they don't even want to see me at the surgery until 8 weeks and that would be a midwife!  Ii was so disappointed told them I am high risk (blood pressure/diabetes) and they still didn't think I should make an apoitnement to see the GP. I was very disappointed. However I called again and made an appointment without telling them why I need to see the GP. I guess in the UK  it also depend on the surgery and the individual GP.

Chitten, don't worry about it. The darkness of the line has nothing to do with being "more or less" pregnant. Let me give you some information I have on the physiology of pregnancy that I got from a doctor who was an OBGYN for decades.

First he said, if the embryo does not die within the first 14 days (two weeks), it typically does NOT have abnormalities.

With that said, from 8 weeks on is when long term abuse of drugs and alcohol can affect baby. If you've stopped doing the things you were doing, your baby should be just fine. Babies and children are RESILIENT and your baby still has a lot of development and growing to do!!!

I think you're causing yourself undue stress and anxiety. ENJOY the pregnancy!!! It really is sweet how concerned you are, though, considering you were contemplating terminating the pregnancy. Isnt' it amazing how life changes?!

Congrats, chitten! You and baby sound just fine.

You will get some cramping with pregnancy anyways. Sometimes It feels like menstrual cramps, sometimes different, but if you are not bleeding or spotting dont stress okay?
