In need of similar stories

At 16 weeks I took the blood test that screens for genetic disorders. I am only 22 and my results came back with a 1:10 risk for downs. I just had a level 2 ultrasound today and everything looked great and measured correctly with NO markers for downs. I decided as of now not to get the amnio. Anyone else go through something similar and if so what happend? Thanks!

I wouldn't worry if your level 2 one came back fine. I had a friend in early 20's that had a soft marker for downs. Her daughter had a shadow on her heart or something like that but she's completely normal! They saw a geneticist to see what their odds were and they were completely low because of age and family history.
I wouldn't risk having an amnio!

the blood test has a HIGH incidence of false positives...it's really only used for legal reasons so that they can justify an amnio if someone wants to investigate their risks further. if the ultrasound showed no markers I wouldn't worry :-).

I had this happen with my now 2 year old son. I came up 1:60 odds of having Edward's Syndrome (worse than Down's because baby usually doesn't survive). My level 2 ultrasound was absolutely normal as well, but I still opted for the amnio. In two days I had prelim results that he was fine and then a week later his full karyotype came back normal. It was a stressful time, but as a post above says, there's a high amount of false positives. Have they offered you the amino?

The only way to actually get an accurate result is to have an amnio done. Im only 21 and at 13 weeks my dr found a cystic mass on my little girls head. She sent me to a high risk doctor. He told me it could be downs syndrome or turners syndrome( which only happens to girls). I talked it over with my boyfriend and we agreed to have the amnio done. 2 weeks later we got our first set of results back and they came back negative as did the second set. Our little girl is perfectly fine. Im 20 weeks now and shes doing great.

My gyno told me my chances were 1:177 with my first pregnancy. Cried afterwards. My doctor sent me to do a family history (no one in my husbands and my family had it) and they also did an ultrasound. The doctor told me  everything thing was normal, so my husband and i decided to opt out of amniocentesis test. Because if my child did have it, we didn't want to point finger's at each other. Luckily we had a healthy baby boy.
