How far along are you? There are ways to help labor come on, but actually inducing labor is another story. Even medicinal induction doesn't always work if it isn't time.

If you are 38 weeks+ and are dilating already, you could ask your doc to strip your membranes (basically separate bag of waters from cervix, which causes a reaction in your body to tell you you're in labor).

Within 24 hours of my doctor doing this with both of my pregnancies, each daughter was born. I know you're miserable and uncomfortable, but you also must realize that pregnancies last 40 weeks for a reason. I can't tell you what to do or how to live your life, but that is my opinion. Good luck and I can't wait to see newborn pics!

I feel the same, and yet I'm willing to give him his time to come when he's ready.. But I've heard of a few. Are you talking about making it come quicker or actually inducing it to happen? I've often hear of women drinking castor oil, but this is sure to give you diarrhea and intestinal cramps. Use at your own discretion.

And the castor oil, I would not want to, for *I think, OBVIOUS* reasons, want to go into labor with diarrhea!!! Yikes.

When I was pregnant I was put on bed rest for the last three weeks until my baby was due. Well, we had company come in from out of town, and I sure didn't feel like being in bed while they were here! It was my FIL and his girlfriend, and it was a surprise visit from up north!
One day, they decided they wanted to go to the zoo. I, of course, decided to go with.
Well, it was one of the most uncomfortable walks ever (I probably looked like an escaped penguin) and I was absolutely exhausted by the time we left. That was on a Thursday. I went into labor early Saturday morning (around 7 am my water broke).

I honestly think that the walk around the zoo pushed my body into going into to labor. I'd always heard that walking is a great way to get things started, and now I believe it!

It may not be comfortable, and it may not even send you into labor...but it couldn't hurt to try. Just find something interesting to do instead of just walking around the block. The zoo, a museum (where at least you'll have air conditioning!), or some other place of interest where you can do a lot of walking.
Maybe it'll work for you! My baby came 10 days earlier than his EDD.
Good luck!
