Iron Level of 3????? SAFE????

by Kane33, Jun 18, 2009 04:56PM
Hi, my Ob-gyn called and said that my iron level is 3 and im 34 weeks pregnant. He told me to take some iron supplements and I should be fine. My Hemoglobin was also at an 82 level. Is there any reason for concern or should there be something else I should be asking or taking?

Anemia is very common in pregnancy, as baby is taking away yours.  Taking extra iron should resolve the issue.

That's a very low iron level. I believe it should be above 12 or above 14 (I forget which). The iron supplements will help!

Your iron (Hb) level cant be 3.  You would need a blood transfusion, you wouldnt be able to walk, that would be way too low.

Normal levels are about 12, and you should make sure during pregnancy that you go lowest 10.  I had 9.2 about a month ago and was exhausted all the time... My aunt had 6 or 7 during her pregnancy due to a pre-existing anemia, and had to have a transfusion.

My iron is always low usually around 7, 8 and yes I am sure it was a three. I sleep alot and get sick alot. They are not fast to give blood transfusions, just added iron.
