Irritable uterus and 18 weeks pregnant

Irritable uterus and 18 weeks pregnant

Hi there, I am currently 18 weeks pregnant, and while I was having my ultrasound done 2 days ago, the tech said I was having contractions that I couldn't feel.
Today I saw my doctor, and said the ultrasound reviled that I have a low-lying placenta , but nothing about the contractions.  When I told her this, she became concerned and asked me if I had the same thing with my son.  I had already told her my history with my son, (about 10 braxton-hicks contractions an hour from 26 weeks on, and PROM at 35 weeks), she said I could give birth early again.  SHe told me not to fly or travel and watch for any bleeding/fluid leakage.  I told her I've had cramps for 4 days but she said that's normal.  She said I have basically, an irritable uterus (she used a different term), and to be careful with my tummy and not bump it, etc.  However, she said I should work as long as possible so I have more time off, even though I told her I am on my feet running around all day at a long-term care facility.

Any one else have a 'irritable uterus' and suggestions?  I am petrified these cramps will turn into labor (although nothing was wrong with my cervix at the ultrasound, they told me) and want to do everything possible to prolong the pregnancy as long as possible.  Even 10 more weeks would give my son a chance.

Thanks for any info!

Rhyanna

IDK if I've got an irritable uterus, but I'm going to ask my dr. My mom gave birth to all 4 of us prematurely (she lost a daughter just before 20weeks.) This is my first pregnancy, but the last 2 days I've had cramps off and on and sure they go away mostly when I drink water... But my pelvis is hurting today.

I'm considered very high risk because of a genetic problem the baby has. And from what I hear babies with D/S can come early. I'm going in tomorrow but I'll see if I can ask my dr. for you.

Hey there....  You should DEFINITELY ask your doctor about having progesterone shots or suppositories.....especially since you've already had a preterm baby!!!!  My water broke at 34 weeks 6 days after two weeks of preterm labor contractions....  My high risk doctor told me that during my next pregnancy, he will have me take progesterone (in the form of vaginal suppositories, but some women get it as a shot) from weeks 15-36....  This is proven to be successful by reducing the chances of preterm labor by up to 40%......  if you have an irritable uterus, which is what I have too, they could help you!!

Also, new research is being conducted on the benefits of Omega-3 supplements to reduce the chances of preterm labor.  You can take those and they won't hurt you or the baby....many women take them during pregnancy....

Ask your doctor about the progesterone.  It's sometimes called P17 shots....  alphahydroxy progesterone....  PLEASE ask about them...  you're right in the zone of when they start them!!!  :)

Thanks both of you!  I will be having my first OB/GYN appointment I assume in a month and will ask about the progesterone! And also Omega-3s.  I try to buy food like eggs and yogurt, that has it added but will ask about supplements.  My doctor I've had up until now didn't think I was high risk but I think I am.  Allie, do you also have a irritable uterus?  My doctor used a different term today and said I should be extra cautious about my stomach and that even touching it causes contractions, but that didn't seem to be the case with my first.
Anyways, thanks for your answers!  I really appreciate it!
