Is him not moving alot normal?

Is him not moving alot normal?

I am 32 1/2 wks pregnant and when I went to the doc 2wks ago she asked if he was moving at least 10 times every hour. Well he pretty much was then, but now he sometimes won't move at all for almost 2hours or so. And when he is moving I'm pretty sure he isn't moving at least 10 times in the hour all the time. Is that normal? I'm really worried because my 1st pregnancy I lost the baby at 29wks so I don't know what to expect frome wk 30 and on. Is it that he is just getting too big or is it something I should be conserned about?

hi..are you doing the kick count? i do it 3 times a day when she is most active. It supposted to be 10 movements within an hour but i dont think she moves 10 times every hour i mean she moves throughout the day but i only do the kick count 3X a day and she usually takes from like 8minutes to the most 45m. Sometimes i worry too but they take naps. When is your baby most active?

Yeah, I've been doing the kick count and I rarely count 10 movement in the last week. I was in the hospital not yesterday but the Sunday before that w/ severe constant cramping and it seems like right after that is when he just slowed down. He will go for hours w/ no movement at all. I'm sure he takes naps, but I didn't know they would be for up to 2hrs sometimes. He is a wierd little guy because he never really pick a certin time of day to be most active, so I can't really say when he is most active. He would just go when he wanted, but before a week ago I know he was all over the place every hour and now he's not.

Remember your baby is in a confined space now, movements will feel less, its perfectly normal.as long as your feeling ten kicks at least throughout the day its fine, baby will be sleeping pretty much other times.honestly dont worry.

Thank you ladies!! I went ahead and called the dr to make sure it was normal. She said as long as I feel him 5 times an hour he is fine, but she didn't say much when I said he sometimes doesn't move for an hour or two. I'm just going to take the movements I get and know he's ok and just a little cramped or sleeping. I will talk to the doc about it when I go next Tuesday for my check up.

Any time you are concerned about your babys movements *I* would advise contacting your ob.  As long as you are feeling the baby move several times a day then s/he is probably ok but if you ever get a feeling that something is wrong...please get checked.  The other posters had some very good advise that I would have said had they not.

ok this is what I believe and understand from taking to the doctor and the maternity clinic staff. Counting movements  here in Canada printed even.. As long as you feel 6-10 movements in 2 hours (not every 2 hours) you're ok. You then stop counting for the day. You should however notice throughout the day/evening little movements but nothing aggressive and they dont usally continue since they do sleep. for me my little one sleeps all day and occasionally I'll feel suttle movements that feel like she's settling in or those involuntary movemets or spasms that we all get while sleeping. The best time for me
to count movements is when she is awake and that is roughly between  1130pm and 1am. What you can do is drink a glass of orange juice something sugary and then wait a few minutes before
going and laying down on your left side placing your
hand on your belly. I usually feel all 10 movements in 5-1o mins when she is active and that is well under two hours every baby is different and move at their own pace. .I'm 38 weeks pregnant and so the movemets have declined alittle but that is due to lack of room, however she still passes the movement counts. Good luck :)

i agree with the rest of the post but like LosingMyMindGa said if you feel like something is wrong or you think that he is moving less or taking longer to complete the kick counts call your ob! Every baby is different i know that they get bigger but you are supposted feel them move like a kick or punch. I was told to do it 3x a day morning, afternoon and at night. And throughout the day like lil movements here and there you know..just make sure your baby moves..i be freaking out sometimes to be honest. You know my history so i be getting scared so when you have concerns go ahead and call your ob if you go to the hospital they will do NST and U/S to make sure everything is fine and trust me you feel much better and with a peace of mind! Take Care!

I felt the same thing with my son (now 4) I wasn't feeling him move as much and it was scaring me. I made an extra appt with my OB/GYN, and he sent me for an emergency fetal assesment, where they found everything to be fine. The doctor there also told me that when you get past 30 weeks, you don't feel as much because there isn't as much room for them to move in there, not only that but their movements slow down, due to lack of space. Hope this helps! *hugs*

When they say "10 kicks an hour" they don't mean eeeevery hour of the day. After all, the baby needs to sleep/rest! It just means that everyday , around the same hour (when the baby is mostly active) you need to count how much time he/she takes in kicking/rolling/jumping/whatever movement  until you reach 10.

my little one has no room to 'kick' at 38 weeks.she moves, stretches, squirms, slides her limbs and pushes. As I said, as long as you feel 10 movements in 2 hours not necessarily KICKS (Not eeeevery two hours)youre ok and as you know if in doubt go to the professionals and get checked just to be safe.
