Is it safe to color my hair now?

Is it safe to color my hair now?

This is my 11th week, and I am in desperate need of a hair-do lol.  I was refusing to get my hair done and dye it since I'm still in my first trimester. But online sources suggest that it is safe although most doctors will recommend to do this after the first trimester. What would you do? Should I call my doc and ask?

well your not in your second trimester yet, but if you want to when you are then i think its really a personal decision. there are some people that say that it is dangerous and some that say it probably isn't. the amount of chemicals that get into your scalp is minimal, however some women still don't do it just for safety...its up to you but it would be best if you call your doctor and ask. i have heard if you do decide to do it to wash your hair in cold water first to close your pores. although ive never dyed my hair so i dont know if you can do it when your hair is wet. but i would ask your doc..the second trimester is usually around 14 weeks. :)

Ive heard different things on this subject.  Make sure you call your doctor and ask, but like worried said your defiantly not out of the clear of the first trimester.  Id wait till around 15 weeks or later to even call your doc and ask him. I'm 27 weeks almost and I know I wouldn't risk it.  I defiantly need highlights, but I can wait till my baby is here.. And if your doc says its okay.  You gotta ask yourself, Whats more important your babies safety or getting your hair colored?  Its totally up to you.

I agree, if you can wait for the second trimester it would be best.  If you do color your hair while pregnant wear gloves, and try to do it in a well ventilated area.

the biggest worry is not actually the ammount of chemicals that get absorbed through the scalp (which is a teenie tiny ammount) but the chemicals that your breathing in...you need to be sure that the salon your in is very well ventilated. or if your doing it yourself...do it outside. I would reccomend waiting until your second trimester and just getting highlights (foils) because when a hairdresser does foils they dont touch the scalp..highlights start a little ways away from the scalp and the foil keeps it from there. this is the information that i got from a hairdresser who cuts my DF's hair. I'm pretty sure im gonna end up getting some foils here pretty soon because i really need a pick me up..im 28 weeks though. But its really a personal preference.

If I had to choose between my baby's safety and my hair, I, of course, choose my baby's safety. I am only asking because evidently I'm not sure what to do since this is my first pregnancy and I keep hearing different things.

Everyone seems to agree on that coloring your hair on the second trimester would be safer. So I shall take that road :)
I will talk to my hair stylist and see if she can open all doors and windows. I will also call my doctor. If my doctor says it's ok to dye my hair in my second trimester then I'll trust her judgement. She has been my gyn for a long time. So thank you, worried, cocacola, and sunkissed for your suggestions.  I appreciate it :) Not coloring my hair then.
