Is laying on your back dangerous?

Is laying on your back dangerous?

I know they say to sleep on your side...preferably the left side to circulate blood...right? Is it harmful to sleep on your back? Cause i usually sleep on my side, but when i wake up in the middle of the night or in the morning im on my back.

You aren't supposed to sleep on your back because it can decrease circulation to you and your baby.  But, I often wake up on my back as well and then just roll to one side.  My doctor recommended putting my smallest pillow under one side so I'd always be slightly to one side even if I was mostly on my back.  They say the left side is best for circulation, but you can't possibly sleep on one side all night so alternate during the night and don't worry if you happen to wake up on your back, it's only natural - they just don't recommend staying in that position.

Yea, I try my best to lay on one side when I go to sleep, but usually wake up on my back or on the side. It's fine! I wouldn't worry about it. As long as you start off the right way, it's okay. haha We can't control what we do in our sleep. ;)

It happens- it won't kill baby or you (though it may give you a backache later). But as soon as you realize you're on your back roll over or use a pillow as Angela suggested.

the something happens to me. Ive always lay on my left side because its a lot more comfortable. o can't even lean a lil to my right side because i start losing my breath and a o have a lot of trouble breathing. but this week i have a lil problem i obviously can't sleep on my right side because i can't breath but i now can't sleep on my left because baby won't stop kicking me. she wont be moving but as soon as i turn to my left she starts moving kicking as if im squishing her. so i sleep on my back with a lot of pillows on my back. im a lil tilted when i sleep. do u guys know if this is bad??? it ***** but this is the only way im comfortable.

They do say it is better not too. But you body will actually tell you when it becomes a problem to sleep on your back or just lay on your back. I'm 28weeks now, I haven't had a problem before, but I just had an hour long U/S and had to be on my back the whole time. I had to tell the u/s tech I needed 10mins to walk around, after 45mins I started to get dizzy and it really started to hurt. I guess my body was telling me it was starting to cause blood flow problems. So try not to sleep on your back, but when if you do end up on your back while your sleeping, your body will most likely wake you up because is cutting off the blood supply!                                Roxy526- you should be ok as long as your propped up on an angle as much as possible, again your body will warn you if its a problem. If you have a recliner chair, those work great, I used one the last 2months of my pregnancy! Also even though your baby starts to kick like crazy, like your squashing her, your not, she would just move, its probably just her getting irritated that your taking up a little more of her space. I place a folded up blanket under my belly to sleep on my side, I have no idea why it works but it does, he just moves over, and goes to sleep! Lol, best of luck, pregnancy is full of joys... And discomfort's!
