Is this really an old wives tale?

Is this really an old wives tale?

I saw a thread a month or so back asking that if a pregnant woman reaches too far above her head could cause the baby's cord to get wrapped around his / her neck.

Now, I am one that believes EVERYTHING my mom says, but today she told me that, and I got scared.  Is this really true?  I mean, how could it be true?  Why would someone think that?

It's got me a little freaked out.  I reach above my head ALL the time, our dishes are high in the cabinets.

If this is an old wives tale, is there any cause for concern about reaching above your head too much or too far, however you want to look at it?

I know this sounds crazy, and far out there, but I've heard it several times now.  I guess I have something else to research and worry about!

Even if that is true the way the baby moves also gets the cord wrapped around the babies neck. Although it is not true 25% of babies will be born normally with the cord aroung the neck at least once if not twice. It is an old wives tail. Congratz on your pregnancy. Good Luck

Thanks!  I thought that too, but you know if mommy says it it must be true.  lol

My baby's cord was wrapped around her neck when she was born.  At one point they said "we need to get the baby out now!" so I pushed so hard she came out in minutes!  It is very common but SCARY nonetheless.
