my friend was diagnosed with placenta previa mid pregnancy.  the doctors told her that there was a chance that the placenta would move up and it did!  i believe she was at about 23 or 24 weeks when the placenta had placed itself properly.  so, she is planning to deliver vaginally.

i wish i knew more about it!!  i know that it's a fairly common condition and that in many cases, with time, the placenta goes into position.  i wish you lots of luck!  keep us updated.

This is from Baby Center.Com.
My friends had it too, but the plecenta moved and she was able to have a vaginal birth!
Best of luck to you!!

"What is placenta previa?

If you have placenta previa, it means that your placenta is lying unusually low in your uterus, next to or covering your cervix. The placenta is the pancake-shaped organ — normally located near the top of the uterus — that supplies your baby with nutrients through the umbilical cord.

Placenta previa is not usually a problem early in pregnancy. But if it persists into later pregnancy, it can cause bleeding, which may require you to deliver early and can lead to other complications. If you have placenta previa when it's time to deliver your baby, you'll need to have a c-section.

If the placenta covers the cervix completely, it's called a complete or total previa. If it's right on the border of the cervix, it's called a marginal previa. (You may also hear the term "partial previa," which refers to a placenta that covers part of the cervical opening once the cervix starts to dilate.) If the edge of the placenta is within 2 centimeters of the cervix but not bordering it, it's called a low-lying placenta. The location of your placenta will be checked during your midpregnancy ultrasound exam.

What happens if I'm diagnosed with placenta previa?

It depends on how far along you are in pregnancy. Don't panic if your second trimester ultrasound shows that you have placenta previa. As your pregnancy progresses, your placenta is likely to "migrate" farther from your cervix and no longer be a problem. (Since the placenta is implanted in the uterus, it doesn't actually move, but it can end up farther from your cervix as your uterus expands. Also, as the placenta itself grows, it's likely to grow toward the richer blood supply in the upper part of the uterus.)

Only about 10 percent of women who have placenta previa noted on ultrasound at midpregnancy still have it when they deliver their baby. A placenta that completely covers the cervix is more likely to stay that way than one that's bordering it (marginal) or nearby (low-lying).

Even if previa is discovered later in pregnancy, the placenta may still move away from the cervix (although the later it's found, the less likely this is to happen). You'll have a follow-up ultrasound early in your third trimester to check on the location of your placenta. If you have any vaginal bleeding in the meantime, an ultrasound will be done then to find out what's going on.

Good morning.. I was in the ER on Saturday and disgnosed with placenta previa as well.. It is soo scary, so I totally symapthize with you. My Dr. told me yesterday ( I had a follow up appointment due to the ER visit Saturday) that early on pregnancy, before 20-24 weeks, the chances of it correcting itself and shifting as the baby grows are very very high.. This made me feel so much better.. Are you bleeding badly?? I personally felt like I got my period, so ran to the bathroom and there was blood when I wiped, that's why I went to ER. This followed with 2-3 days of brownish discharge for me. Sorry if this is TMI I am just trying to share my experience in hopes of making you feel better. They did an u/s Saturday an the baby's hb was 144, I got to hear it yesterday via doppler. My doctor seemed confident that it will coreect itself. i really hope your does as well. =)  KEEP US POSTED!

JOLOR has already dealt with the topic extensively, But here are a few tips from American Pregnancy association

Avoid intercourse
Limit traveling
Avoid pelvic exams

With all the excitement and anticipation of a healthy delivery, receiving the diagnosis of placenta previa can be a very shocking and frustrating experience. There are support groups for bed rest mothers and even some for mothers with placenta previa. They are available to help you through this difficult time. Your doctor, midwife, or doula should be able to assist you through this period.

And from Mayo Clinic:

If you have marginal placenta previa or another form of placenta previa but little or no bleeding, your health care provider may recommend bed rest at home. Depending on the circumstances, you may need to lie in bed most of the time — only sitting and standing when necessary. You'll need to avoid sex and vaginal exams, which can trigger bleeding. Exercise is usually off-limits, too. Discuss the do's and don'ts with your health care provider — and be prepared to seek emergency medical care if you begin to bleed.

A condition that could cause excessive bleeding before or during delivery isn't part of any mother's vision of the perfect pregnancy. Yet most women who have placenta previa go on to deliver a healthy baby — which is far better than a perfect pregnancy.

Like it usually happens, there is still time for the placenta to be properly positioned, make the most of the time and remember not to panic, and take care of yourself.all the best.

My friend had the same thing with her son and for the longest time she was scheduled for a c-section but her last u/s at around 36 weeks showed that it had moved and she was able to deliver and she did

i was diagnosed with this at 13 weeks a full previa im 35 weeks now and it has corrected itself you have a 90 % chance of the previa correcting itself before u give birth..your not going to bleed to death

Yes I was at 18 weeks at 20 weeks the placenta had moved and now everything is fine.  Good luck there is plenty of time for it to move.

I too was diagnosed with placenta previa along with a bilobed placenta and by 36wks it had corrected itself and I delivered vaginally at 38wks! Best of luck :)

A lot of women are diagnosed with that during early pregnancy. I was with my second so they just checked by ultrasound with every visit to see if it had corrected itself, because many times it does. But before it did for me I had to be CAREFUL to not lift heavy things (well anything over 20 lbs!) which my DD  was at the time. Just be careful and dont worry, it will most likely just move. I hope it does, good luck!
