Kind of OT but my roommates nephew just got bit in the face by a dog!

So my roommate has a litle nephew that is 7 and he was bitten by a dog today.  The dog took 2 chunks out of his face and there was now skin left, it was a clean bite.  He was taken to the ER and they had to put him under to stitch him up.  He had 6 stitches in one spot and 7 in the other which they had to bring in a plastic surgen for.  I guess he had been around this dog before and never had a problem but the dog just bite him and it sounded like Donte wasn't doing anything to the dog when he went for him.  Had the dog gone a little lower and gotten his neck we would have a big problem.  What would you do if that were your child/dog?  I would put the dog to sleep... any dog that bites once will always have the chance of doing it again!  I would force the dogs owner to do something because that poor little boy shouldn't have had to deal with that.  Poor thing, he was all confused when he woke up from them putting him out.

Different states have different laws against dog bites. They need to contact animal control and find out what the laws are about dog bites.  Some states it's mandatory euthanasia for the dog.

The owner of the dog needs to be held liable for the medical bills!

Its just awful!  I guess the dog belonged to the little boys mom's friend. The little boy is such a cutie and so sweet his grandparents had just gotten him his first dog about a month or two ago.  The poor little boy is going to have to grow up and teased by a scar... hopefully the plastic surgen did a good enough job he wont have to worry abotu it.  I thing the dog needs to be euthanasied any dog that bites someone needs too.  I know in Colorado and in Denver also they are big on dog safty and have many regulations on dogs.

I don't think that putting the dog to sleep is the answer.  The dog needs to be rehabilitated and needs obedience lessons.  Dogs are like children, if they are bugged or teased they will react and if the owner doesn't train the dog right to react in a right way then in part its the owners fault. Dogs are very much like children and even if the child is not doing anything directly to the dog, if the kid is running around like a maniac and screming his lungs off, it makes the dog nervous because the kid is disrupting his house and his territory.  I think that the dog needs to go to strict obedience school and that the owner needs to pay for the medical bills.

i'd have the dog put down. it could have killed a baby/child and i would not be prepared to take that risk again whether it was the dog's fault or not. my friend's dog attacked her son, took a chunkout of his face and she had the dog put down. it's a matter of safety once a dog has bitten.

I am a big dog lover and as much as it pains me to say, when a dog attacks a human and it was not provoked it needs to be put down, there is no other way to be sure it wont happen again. I know I would never be able to trust the dog ever again. I have a friend who was attacked by her family dog when she was 9 months old, her whole head was in the dogs mouth, she had to have total reconstructive surgery on her face and neck. The dog was put down.

I wanted to add that we aren't talking about a little nip on the hand here, this dog attacked that little boy.

Yeah poor guy!  I saw him today and he said it was really painful and he looked like he hurt.  The dog is cuorentined(sp?) for 10 days and then they go from there.  I love dogs and still think this dog needs to be put down.  Once a dog attacks they can always do it again... I just feel so bad for him.
