Kinda OT -- Crocheting Baby Stuff

So a few months back I decided to try my hand at crocheting.  I've had some success at it ...even made myself a cute hat for when it gets colder!  But I really would like to make some baby stuff.  I have a few books from the library, but was wondering if any of you ladies out there have any fun, simple patterns I could try out.  I tried making a little hat for the baby to come home in ...and I think I made it too small!  lol  So if you have anything that could give me a good gauge of how to size for a newborn, I'd really appreciate it!  I don't have any children or even baby dolls I could 'test' my creations on ...so it will all probably end up being a 'good guess'!  

So for now I'll work on the blanket to match the (probably too small) hat ...then maybe go back and make a new hat!  =D  Thanks for any advice, tips, or patterns you may come up with!  =D  Feel free to message me too!  =D

My sister is crocheting my baby socks and a hat.  She made her daughter ones to match.  Im not the crocheting type of girl but i do sew.  Im in the process of sewing my little boy a patchwork blanket.  But sitting for so long kills my back and butt!

I love to crochet but I have never made baby clothes. I will have to get some patterens and give that a try. I have made several baby blankets thowe. Good luck with you baby blanket. I bet the blanket and hat will come out great.

Thanks ladies!!  I'm on the 12th row of that blanket I mentioned ...gonna have to put it down for a bit and do some super cleaning!  lol ...I have a client coming over tomorrow and I've gotten super-lax with the housework!  I'll be sure to post a couple pictures of the few things I've done so far (crochet pouch, hat, little squares to make a big blanket for hubby!, and the little baby hat).

When I talked to my mom and gma earlier today, I asked if they had any patterns.  I know my Gma isn't using hers anymore because crocheting is too much for the arthritis in her hands now.  She said she has a bunch, so hopefully her and my mom will send 'em off to me!  =D  Also, my mom told me to check about.com ...I did, but then just did a google search.  I found a yarn website (bernat) that has some free patterns.  I found a cute one for a hat and booties ...so I may try it after I'm done with the blanket!  =D
