LOW HCG LEVELS

by Drgnflylv, Oct 24, 2007 11:40PM
HI. I was just hoping someone could help me with the truth and not just tell me what i want to hear. I am pregnant, Probably just starting 6 weeks. I got my levels tested last week on thursday, 177, then on Saturday, 239, then on Tuesday again, 368. Those numbers are horrible. I am so scared I am gonna lose this baby. Has anyone had numbers this low and had a healthy baby? It is very hard to reach my doctor, and I just dont seem to be getting any advice. Someone PLEASE help me.

Thanks!

Your levels sound fine to me. I'm not sure what time you go them during the day but as long as they are doubling every 72 hours hours you should be fine!

IT SEEMS IT TOOK  DAYS TO DOUBLE AND I THINK MY NUMBER SHOULD BE IN THE THOUSANDS...:(

SORRY, IT TOOK 5 DAYS TO DOUBLE

by alaysha, Oct 25, 2007 12:14AM
Hmmm if it took five days then that isn't a good sign. In early pregnancy your levels have to double within that time frame otherwise the pregnancy isn't considered viable. I would wait a week and get an ultrasound to see if the baby is developing like it should and if maybe they can see a heartbeat. I'm sorry that this is happening keep us informed as to what happens.

do you know anything about progesterone pills? My doc called in a prescription for some since my level is a 5. Do they help? Are they safe?

Hi-I'm brand new but thought I would tell you what I know. I got a positive blood test on Tuesday. My level was 136. I have to go back this morning for another one. They want to see the number double. I did IVF and had the transfer done only two weeks ago. I take 200mg of progesterone three times a day. It is safe-what it does is help to thicken the lining of your uterus. It gives the egg a better surface to implant into and also helps the egg will stay implanted. My fertility doctor described it to me like they want to make my uterus "sticky". They said eventually the baby will start to make it's own progesterone and they will ween me off the medicine. Best of luck to you!

Is it too late at 6 weeks to take the progesterone?

Hello!  I'm also new to this blog but my Dr. put me on progesterone pills when i was between 5-6 weeks.  The beginning of Oct.  I didnt have any hCG level problems but I was having a low progesterone level.  My dr. doesnt like to see progesterone until 15 so i would go with the pills if you feel comfortable.  Believe me hcg levels arent everything the best thing to do is get a U/S done ASAP.  Hope everything goes great and CONGRATS!  Keep us posted.

It sounds like other started taking them later but I have using progesterone since before I had my transfer. However, I did have fertility issues. Mine is also not a pill. It's a supposotory.

Im having the same problem, my hcg levels aren't quite doubling.  I had a ultrasound and found a heartbeat, but the measurements were a bit small for the no of wks pregnant.  So i have been madly finding out info on the internet on what my options are and what is happening with the pregnancy!  If you look at this site in the fertility part where the doc answers questions, one said the hcg levels don't have to double, as long as they are increasing with a certain percentage and also some people go on to have a healthy baby with low hcg levels . I am really worried though about what is happening to my baby, i go for another ultrasound in a week to see what the baby is doing.

im so sorry you are going through this as well. It is at least hopeful that you found a heartbeat. I just talked to my doc, she wants me to recheck my numbers AGAIN, and then we will schedule an ultrasound....it is gonna be a LONG wait!!
Good luck to you, hope all is well and you have a beautiful baby!!

My first HCG test was done on 18th Oct' it was 70, on 20th it was 120. Doctor said it did not double but its still ok. Third HCG was done on 22nd and level was 186, doctor asked for one more blood test and the fourth one was 290. Doctor got bit worried and called me for a u/s and blood work today. she wanted to be sure that the implantation was in the tubes. I just got back from my u/s. Everything looked ok, but could not see anything in the uterus, she said it is due to the low HCG's. I must be approximately 5 weeks for today. Went through first IVF cycle and I am on progesterone injection everyday. She said she would see the blood work results and then go from there. I am crossing my fingers and hoping it will be fine and I will have a healthy pregnancy. So you don't worry, just wait and hope for the best. Thats what I am doing.
