Leaking part 2

Leaking part 2

So when I'm nursing and I start leaking on the other side, should I be pumping? I don't want to lose my supply, and I'd actually like to build it up more. Aubryana has been feeding every two hours at most for the last 48 hours, last night she actually went three and a half without eating, I was glad for the break! BUT it's been about every two besides that and she nurses for a while, falls asleep for maybe ten fifteen minutes and wakes up to eat again, she may only do it once but has done it up to three or four times before she's asleep for a while. SO should I pump when I feed her? I'm not pumping at all right now, but someone mentioned before that leaking is my body saying I need to feed her, and I don't want the side that's leaking to get a lower supply cause she's not eating from it. I usually feed from one side only at a time, and switch only if it's been two hours from the first feeding. SO if she starts eating at 12 and eats/sleeps/eats/sleeps and it's 2 I'll switch to the other side to feed her...

I believe as long as you're switching sides you won't have to worry about losing supply on one side. I was told that the reason one side leaks is because when you nurse and let-down, both breasts will do it at the same time. I personally have never pumped while she nursed (way too much hassle) and have a good supply, so for me it was never an issue. I think it would be personal preference really.

I guess I'm just worrying too much...

Ok, so if I don't pump while nursing should I when it's between feedings? Like I just started leaking a minute ago, which is why I came back to ask. BUT she's not due to eat again for another hour/hour and a half...

If you don't want to feed or pump push on your breast and it should stop the leaking.

I've done that to stop it, and it's worked, I'm just curious if I should pump in between to empty them some so I produce more, or if I shouldn't bother...

I suppose it would really be up to you. If you want to get a storage up like for bottle feedings it would be a good idea. If not, you might over-produce which would cause a ton of pain for you due to engorgement. You will naturally produce what your baby needs as she eats so that wouldn't be a concern as long as you feed on demand.

For me I would pump one side if it was a longer time between eating than normal. For example, if my son had been eating every 2 hours and it had been 3 since his last feeding I would pump one side. Then, if he woke up I would feed on the other side and then let him nurse on the empty side if after because it would build up some while I was nursing. I think you just do whatever works best for you.

I BF my son until he was 2. We had a rough start. I had to pump and feed for 8 weeks as he would not latch on. After 8 weeks he was fine. When you BF from one breast, your other breast gets stimulated, That is why it is leaking. I would switch sides often. 15mins each side every time. That way both breasts get stimulated evenly. If you have enough milk there is no need to pump, unless you want to have back up, so your Dh can feed your baby.

Good luck.
