M/S, what's the deal ?

by Gina209, Jun 23, 2008 11:10AM
When I first found out I was Pregnant I was eating non stop, hungry all the time etc..once I hit 6 weeks I started feeling so nausious ALL the time and it's still here! I haven't thrown up yet but I feel so sick all the time. I know its normal in your first trimester and might possibly go away for my second but I'm just looking for some advice. I wake up in the morning and I feel sick...I think of food and I feel sick. If I dare eat anything I feel like I'm going to puke it up, I seriously have to lay down and make myself NOT puke. And this happens with every meal! At dinner I try and eat something in a bigger portion to take my Prenatals and the second I put food in my mouth I feel sick and every night I almost puke it up. I'm just kinda worried because I haven't put on any weight yet which I know is normal...but I'm really tiny as it is and I'm just afraid with being sick all the time I'm not going to eat enough for the baby. I'm barely eating anything! My stomach always feels sick. It's totally worth it but I'm just looking for anything that helped any of you ladies...thanks!!

I have heard that eating smaller meals or snacks throughout the day helps, so you are not eating a lot on an empty stomache.

I have had really bad nausea as well.. I find that breakfast bars really help me. I am addicted to Odwalla bars.. If I can get one down, they are really filling and healthy so it may help get you through this? Feel better.. At least you aren't actually throwing up.. I am .. And often.. Uggh.. =)

My doc prescribed Phenegran for me.  It makes you REALLY sleepy, so if you get it, take it at night and make sure to get a full nights sleep.  I can't say that it really helped me all that much, but it does help a lot of people.

Also, you may want to try some peppermint ice cream.  It is light and does help settle your stomach some.  Plus the added calcium is good for both you and the baby.  Blue Bell sells it around the holidays but only then.  But you can buy it form ice cream stores such as Baskin Robins, Marble Slab, etc. year round.

I also found this tea that was awesome.  It's called Peach/Ginger tea.  The ginger really helps and it tastes good.  It does have caffeine, but that's okay in moderation.  It's good.  It does help some and you can drink it hot or cold.  It is made by The Republic of Tea.  In the store that I got it from, it was in a specialty section.  For some reason, it wasn't with the rest of the teas.  If you can't find it, I'd seriously consider ordering from their website.  But if you go to a larger grocery store, you will probably be able to find it.

I know it stinks.  I have 5 and get just green my first and part of my 2nd trimester.  But the fact that you are feeling sick, means your hormone levels are probably rising nicely, so that's a good sign :)

Hey Gina, My sister had really bad morning sickness and the docotor ended up putting her on some kind of suppository along with vitamin B (I cannot remember if it was 6 or 12) so it may be worth a call to your docotor for some relief - especially if you are tiny to begin with he probably would want you to at least be staying the same weight or gaining a pound or two this first trimester. Also I just wanted to add that because I know you have had m/c in the past and me too that I experienced a very similar situation during the past few weeks - i was almost incapacitated by the waves a nausea that hit me out of nowhere - i was telling my mom about it and she suggested that mabye it was more psychological than I was willing to admit. I am terrified of having another m/c even though everything about this pregnancy is better by a long way so far and when you add in the fact that I am carrying twins you naturally assume every symptom should be doubled, since I have been able to admit that a little more the nausea has been considerably less. There are still times it rough but not like it was before and I was beginning to think I would never be able to survive six more weeks of it. Please don't take this the wrong way as I am not one to think people make up symptoms so please call you doctor if neccessary. I just wanted to share my recent experience and I realize it may not work for everyone else or maybe I am just the one with the overactive brain.

Since getting my BFP at 4 weeks 3 days, I am now 6 weeks 3 days and feel the nauseau symptoms elevating! The past few days I have been feeling really nauseas right after I eat, but today for some reason it is way worse to where I really thought that I would get sick.  I have heard from friends and family that have been pregnant that the symptoms might increase soon (I guess around7th week).  I know everyone is different, but it is supposed to die down after 1st trimester.  It makes me feel better getting the m/s because I never had that before and I m/c'd.  Also, like someone said before, they say to eat smaller meals.

My daughter was sick in the beginning too and pretty much ate crackers and drank water.  She didn't gain any weight until her 5th month, and then went on to gain almost 40 pounds.  The baby will get what it needs from your reserves, so I wouldn't worry too much about not eating a lot of food during these first few weeks.  Try your best to eat some bland foods, maybe some chicken noodle soup, crackers or something that isn't too heavy- - -and drink lots of water, so you stay hydrated.

It should  get better during the second trimester and the weight will come on later.

Thanks ladies! I was just telling my husband this morning that when I do force myself to eat I make sure its something really nutritional because I know I'm not eating nearly as much as I should..so when I do manage to get something down, its yogurt, PB&J, cheese, veggies..something with nutrients. Also I can NOT eat meat..just the thought or sight of it makes me want to yack! And I LOVE meat! Its horrible..so I'm trying to get my protein elsewhere like peanut butter, eggs etc. I also have trouble with water...I wasn't a huge fan of water before I got Pregnant...than when I got Pregnant I craved it..I always wanted it, now I cant stand to drink it. And I know getting dehydrated is really bad..so I'm trying.
But like some of you said I like it because I know my hormones are strong and the babys growing but at the same time I just want to eat! haha. Well I guess I just have to eat whenever I can, try small portions...and take it day by day. Thanks again!
