After the heart beat is seen the chance of m/c goes way down.....But Iam the 1st to say that I dont believe this....Maybe its because this has happen to me....Idk. ANything could happen....She just needs to try her best to not think about it...

I heard my babies heartbeat at 6wk 2days and I then found out that I had a missed m/c at 12 weeks. The baby only measured 7wks 4 days without a heartbeat.

With pregnancy worry always happens. She needs to remember to relax and enjoy the pregnancy.

I agree. I was the same way, constantly worrying. I saw my babies heartbeat at 6,7 and 8 weeks. Started spotting at 9, went in for an ultrasound and there was no heart beat baby was only measuring 8 weeks 3 days. They say the chance of miscarriage goes down alot after seeing heartbeat, however I know first hand that ANYTHING can happen. Tell her to stop worrying and stay positive, think good things will come and they will!

its common.. i've had 2 miscarriages... one i heard and saw the babys heartbeat 5 hours before i ended up having the m/c and the other one was 12hours before i had the mc... It all depends on your bloodwork you get done, that will tell you if your lvls are low or not. I'm sorry.

It is more common than they say,yes it does drop slightly, however ive had it happen twice now.both times within 2 weeks.but im now 17 weeks and going strong.I think every mother is going to worry, first, second, third child no matter what, its what we do.even now i worry ive lost 7 in total.and like most women here everyday is very precious when we are pregnant.and every slight little niggle we feel we panic, but tell her to enjoy her pregnancy and relax..

I have also heard our baby's heartbeat at 6-7 weeks and then had a missed mc at 8 weeks. I think it is common. I think as long as you have some preg symptoms, then its all good.

Well I think that anything could happen, like most of the ladies have already posted. However at 6 weeks I had an internal u/s done and we not only saw but heard the heartbeat, the very next day I m/c. However I have had a hand full of friends that have bled through out their whole pregnancy and everything turned out fine.
Best of luck to your sister in law!

I am the same say and heard baby's heart beat at 6 weeks 3 days found out at 13 weeks through ultrasound that baby had stopped developing at 8 weeks 3 days. I think they say HEAR heartbeat because usually it isn't heard through doppler untill 12 + weeks which is when chances decrease.

I would have to agree with Crysi. They say the word HEAR because they really don't considered it heard until they use a doppler. The risk of miscarriage does decrease after that point, or so they say, though there are a lot of women that have had them later than that. My Dr. said, and this could be just her opinion, that most miscarriages happen between the 5-8 week marks, but like I just said, there are a lot of women on this site that has had them later. The best advise is for you to try and relax and not to worry too much.

Sometimes when a woman miscarries after hearing the heartbeat, it usually has to do with low progesterone. When progesterone is low it signals the body to begin menstruating. So that is probably ONE reason why women can miscarry right after having heard the heartbeat. I'm not sure about those who've had missed miscarriages (heard heartbeat and weeks later find out they stopped developing) and why that occurs; probably a genetic reason.

Tell your SIL to stop worrying and enjoy her pregnancy! Easier said than done but if it is out of her control she shouldn't be psyching herself out.

This thread cracks me up. Everyone discusses their horror stories and then ends it with "don't stress, enjoy your pregnancy." of course anything can happen but the truth is, there are many more healthy pregnancies that make it full term than miscarriages. I'm sure your sis in law will be just fine!
