Navajo Pregnancy Taboos

A friend sent this to me earlier, thought it was funny enough to pass on.

Do not tie knots when you are pregnant or you will have a hard time having a baby.
Do not put bowls together when you are pregnant or you will have trouble having a baby.
Do not stand in the doorway while pregnant or you will have trouble having a baby.
Do not stand in the doorway when a pregnant woman is present or she will have trouble having a baby.
Do not wear two hats at the same time or you will have twins or two wives.
Do not try to count the stars or you will have too many children.
Do not make a circle around yourself or you will have a round baby.
Do not swallow gum whole you are pregnant or the baby will have a dark spot (birthmark) on it. Since chewing gum is hardly Navajo in origin, I question this!
Do not kill an animal while your wife is pregnant or the baby will be born funny.
Do not kill birds while your wife is pregnant or the baby will look like a bird.
Do not sew on a saddle while your wife is pregnant or it will ruin the baby's mouth.
Do not make a slingshot while you are pregnant or the baby will be crippled. I must question the inclusion of this modern technology!
Do not look at strange creatures while your wife is pregnant or the baby will be born strange.
Do not go to ceremonies while pregnant because it will have a bad effect on the baby.
Do not peel potatoes or apples when you are pregnant or the baby will have a flat face.
Was this begun by women? One wonders!
Do not hit a sheep's leg while your wife is pregnant or the baby will be crippled.
Do not yell at a pregnant woman because the baby will be deaf. - it is also extremely rude!
Do not eat a lot of sweet stuff when you are pregnant or the baby will not be strong.
Do not sleep to much when you are about to have a baby or the baby will mark you in some way.
Do not look at a dead person or dead animals while you are pregnant because it is bad luck for the baby.  It will be born sickly.
Do not jump around while you are pregnant because it will induce labor.
Do not eat too much fat stuff when you are pregnant because the baby will have trouble coming out.
Do not kill a frog while you wife is pregnant because the baby will walk or jump like a frog.
Do not look at a wild cat or any other wild animals while pregnant or the baby will look wild.
Do not cut gloves off at the knuckles or the baby will have short, round fingers.
Do not put on a Yei mask while your wife is pregnant or the baby will have a big head and look strange.
Do not carry small animals when you are pregnant or the baby will look like that animal.
Do not cross your fingers because it shows your mother is having a baby or your father's ex-wife is pregnant.
Do not eat Navajo onions because you will have a lot of children.
Do not watch an accident while your wife is pregnant or it will affect the baby.
Do not hit your wife while she is pregnant or she will lose the baby.
Do not tease your wife about pregnancy because what you say will come true.
It could also result in grevious personal injury!
