Need Advice on getting my BM Supply up.

Need Advice on getting my BM Supply up.

The LC at my hospital has been getting me too keep a log of All of my pumpings; date, Time. length, and Ammount, per pumping session. I have noticed I'm only full in the morning after I wake up with about 8-10 hours of sleep and i only get 2 oz out of each. then after that i try to pump every 2 hours and i only get MAYBE 1/2 an ounce each. I have tryed everything MY LC has suggested to get my supply up before my baby comes home but nothing seems to be working.

DH and I were going through the log last night and noticed something odd, Every time I have double pumped the ammount has been way smaller, than if i pump 1 breast then wait 2 hours and then pump the other it seems i get more that way.

Maybe I just dont know wth im doing lol.

Anyways does anyone have and suggestions for getting my supply up before baby comes home? which she will be home friday at the latest.

Actually I have heard that some new thinking is to have baby take one breast at a feeding instead of switching. You're not going to hurt anything by pumping one breast at a pump time and then pump the other breast at another time. You have to listen to your body and develop your own rhythm and just do what is best for you.

If you're on FB you should follow The Leaky B@@b (yes the @'s are part of their name and I'm not bleeping anything out). You can ask your question there. I believe that is where I saw the article posted on this new thinking about having baby take one breast at a feeding and then giving then the other at the next feeding; works for some but not all. Seems like it may work for you!

Will you be able to switch from pumped milk to breastfeeding do you think? It IS possible with some work and persistence. Keep us updated!

You can take fenugreek drops or drink mothers milk tea both help boost supply. You can find them both at any vitamin store or like a whole foods, sprouts, etc. Eating oatmeal and drinking like 6oz of wheat beer before you pump in the evenings have also been said to help.

I noticed when I went all night that my supply started to drop. You probably need to set your alarm and pump once through the night. 8-10 hours is a long time to wait when your trying to boost your supply.

NicMom made a great suggestion - I had the most milk when my daughter was nursing in the middle of the night (even as an older baby). I also had some Mother's Milk Tea (tastes like black licorice which I don't particularly like so I made mine iced with honey for sweetener and that helped).
