Im 24 wks now into my pregnancy. My water broke at 20 wks. I stayed in the hospital for about a week after my water broke, on iv fluids and antibiotics, but my body never went into labor and the iv fluids weren't working, so I was sent home and just monitored weekly by my dr. Last week I went to see my dr. and he told me that I had a major increase in my fluids, but then I went back today to a different high risk dr. and he told me that he still doesn't see any fluid. Im worried and just wondering if there's any chance of my baby coming out without any problems? My dr. says that his heart beat is still really strong and he dosen't even look too cramped. Also, he has fluid in his kidneys so there has to be a little fluid around his face
for him to be swalling it. Im going to be admitted back into the hospital later this week, so they can put me on more iv fluid and start giving the baby steroids to help his lungs production. My dr is expecting me to carry the baby to term, since there are no signs of me contracting, and the baby is still moving. Has anyone ever been through this and come out with good results? Im so confused, because im only 20 yrs old, and in college. I know all I can really do is wait until the time comes, but is there a good chance of the baby coming out without any problems? Has anyone ever went through a pregnancy without any fluid?
It can happen, but this is an extremely serious comlication of pregnancy. It sounds like they are doing what can be done, and only time will tell the outcome.
The major danger is that without amniotic fluids, the lungs may not develop enough...or at all. Steroids do not help with that, in this instance.
Steroids will help if the baby is delivered prematurely, and there is enough lung tissue there to sustain ventilation.
There are other dangers, but the major, most life threatening one is the lack of lung development caused by no amniotic fluid.
Yep peak is right, at this point let the doctors do all they can do and try to follow advice with strict caution, It is a scary time for you, but your little guy seems to be a fighter! So just try to take it easy and best wishes to you!

hi myname is danielle im going through the same thing i love my baby water broke at 10 weeks im 22 weeks and still going strong and believe its what god wants
Thanks for your awful story considering I am going through this and am already terrified! I never thought I would wake up with the baby coming out like that! Sorry for your esperience but maybe wording may help make that sound less scary for others...although gosh sorry that happened to you!
The fact that u have made it from 20 - 24 weeks this sounds kinda promising. I'm not an expert by any means, and I'm only 9 weeks into my first. But from the sounds of it, I would remain hopeful I would say just rest, rest, rest and, drink as much fluid as your body can possibly handle, even after u get the IV. Most of all take it easy and I will keep u and yor baby in my prayers I hope the very best for u good luck sweat
