No heartbeat at 11 weeks?

by ZoesMommy, May 28, 2008 08:41AM
Yesterday, the midwife tried to use the doppler to find my baby's heartbeat, but all she found was mine. Is it normal not to hear a heartbeat at 11 1/2 weeks?

yes here they do not even try till you are at least 16 weeks i got a different midwife to check and she could not find it at 12 but at 16 i could get it at home with my doppler

I think at that time point it could still be hard to find.  Was it not followed up with an ultrasound?  I would think she would if she couldnt find it.

I wouldn't freak out though some times it's hard to find the heartbeat so early on a doppler now if they don't see one on the u/s then I'd worry..

Try to relax!  You might not be able to hear it on a doppler for a while yet!!!

I'll be having the IPS screen next week so I'll have an ultrasound then.

My GP tried finding mine at 11 weeks also, she said in some cases it is too early to hear. I had an ultrasound at 12 weeks 3 days and my babies heartbeat was strong and around 170. Then at 16 weeks we managed to hear it with the doppler, I am now 19 weeks 3 days and everything is going fine. I am sure eveything will be fine. All the best x

I guess I'm just paranoid, with my last two ending in miscarriage and all. I hope it's all okay.

I had a doc. appt yesterday at 11 weeks and he couldnt find it at all on the doppler at first so he got an ultrasound in the room and searched forever then we saw the baby doing flips and moving all over the place and i saw the heart beat.  They didnt tell me how fast it was going.  But then once he knew where the baby was he used the doppler again at that spot and found the heartbeat and it was fast and strong....again  i dont know how fast though!  Im sure your fine, but i was freaking out too!

VERY normal.  12 weeks is typically about when you can start to hear it w/ a Doppler and in many cases it takes much longer.

Well, I'm back from the OB. I've decided to stick with the OB rather than go with a midwife, just based on all the reproductive issues I've had in the last year. The doctor says that because of the endo, the fibroids and two consecutive miscarriage, I'm being placed in the high risk category, which doesn't really ease my mind. He didn't check for a heartbeat because I said the midwife didn't find one yesterday, but also explained that as much as I'd like to go with one, an OB is probably best for me. I'm disappointed, but I have to do what's best for the baby.

I have my FTS Screening booked. Surprisingly, it's tomorrow at 3:45pm. I'm surprised because they're getting me in pretty quickly. This was the latest time they had in the next two weeks, and I needed something after 2:30pm because of mine and DH's jobs.

So, hopefully I'll get to see the heartbeat tomorrow and see the baby doing flips and acrobatics. That'll set my mind at ease.

Crossing my fingers for you. Personally I think it was the dopler. They sometimes don't pick up for another month to a month and a half.

i would not worry cuz if the doctor was worried she would have done a transvaginal one:)  Have you seen the heartbeat yet on a transvaginal?

by ZoesMommy, May 28, 2008 04:44PM
Yeah. Last time I saw the heartbeat it was 162bpm.

i would not worry then because the doppler does not pick up things sometimes.  as long as you saw the heartbeat before you should be fine:)

My dr. tried to find TJ's at 13 weeks and after a few minutes of searching was able too. 11 weeks is TOO early.
