OB PRESCRIBED ME ZOFRAN

by Kamyrn2009, Feb 19, 2009 04:53PM
So i have been having a hard time dealing with this nausea thing! I walked down stairs after trying to eat my luch(without success) to talk to my OB(I work in a hospital) She prescibed me zofran. I read though that it should only be used when there is severe vomiting to the point where the woman is dehydrated. I have not been vomiting much but my nausea is terrible! Anyone know of any natural remedies for nausea before i turn to the drugs! Ive tried crackers, gingerale, ginger snaps cookies(lol), small meals throughout the day, eating something before getting out of bed, soups, lemon, salt, EVERYTHING! Nothing so far has worked! At my job they dont just pat me on the back and send me home when im not feeling well( and they know im pregnant) so I need some way to relieve this! Im going to try to hold off on the medicine for as long as i can, but any other suggested that you ladies have tried would be GREATLY appreciated! BTW, I ordered those preggie pops too so we'll see how that turns out once they arrive!

THANKS!****

I took zofran for a few weeks and now while I still have nausea I noticed I can keep it under control as long as I am sucking on something. I carry around a bag of jolly ranchers and that keeps me from feeling too sick inbetween meals. I imagine the preggie pops are the same concept.

i tried everything else too- nothing worked. My last pregnancy I used zofran for about a month and my daughter had no problems because of it. This time I had to rely on zofran again. I have been using it for about 5 weeks now. I would have lost a lot of weight without it. I am finally at the point where I only have to take one every other day.

My OB is very conservative with medications- he wouldn't even let me take benedryl in the first trimester when so many dr's allow their patients to. He allowed me to take the zofran and told me to take the lowest effective dose. My pills were 4 mg each, but he said if it's not enough i can double and take 8 mg every 8 hours. DH is a pharmacist and he also allowed me to take the zofran. And he won't even let me take Halls.

Wow! Well im glad its been helping you and that you've used it before with no problems! I actually gave in and took one about 2 hours ago! I was starved but I couldnt get food anywhere close because of the nausea! So I took one and was able to eat(and keep down so far) some soup. It works good so far im gonna try and just take one every other day too!***

Thanks for your help***
