OPKS question. so confusing!!

Hi all. Just wanted to ask other than charting body temp and cm how else can you calculate the day you ovulate? if you use opks does it mean you ovulate 24 hours after you detect the surge? I used them for 3 months and whenever i detected the lh surge we made love after 6-12 hours but never got pregnant. however this time round we made love just by coincidence a day before the lh surge was detected and i am now pregnant!! so does this mean that for me when i detect the lh surge i ovulate more or less straight away and waiting a few hours means i miss ovulation? any suggestion. hope i made sense!

Sperm can live in the vagina for upwards of 5-7 days. So having sex before or after the surge doesn't matter. It's weird how we can miss getting pregnant so many months, even when ovulating and timing everything perfect.

You ovulate about 24-48 hours *after* the LH surge. That's why I thought this was interesting you got pregnant before you even got an LH surge.

thanks for the reply. yes i know know that sperm can live for upto 7 days but we had sex day before surge, on day of surge and day after surge just in case!! i was just wondering how to work out which day i must have ovulated. before this month we usually waited for the surge which was usually in the morning and then had sex later on in the evening and then again for the next couple of days assuming that ovulation was yet to occur in the following few days after the surge but i was just not getting pregnant.
