OT~~DS scared the cr*p out of me...

by smjmekg, May 26, 2009 04:01AM
So I fed DS some peas (which he's had many times) and then put him down for a nap. Before I put him down I noticed he was red on his chest, went in five minutes later and he looked like he had the hives all over his chest neck and face. And was also having trouble breathing so I picked him up and he began to dry heave and then throw up, rushed him to the clinic on post where his breathing was now fine, and they diagnosed him with just having hives, didn't say anything about the throwing up and trouble breathing, but gave me some cream for his hives and they've since almost disappeared...don't know what caused it, but scared the CR*P out of me. He looks ok now, no new hives but I have DH's phone tonight since mine is crappy, just in case we need to go back which I'm hoping doesn't need to happen. Phew...not even a year old yet and has scared mommy so many times (couple months ago he was hospitalized for severe bronchitis). I'm a germaphobe and I like to keep everything clean, so I have no clue what happened today. Took him to the water park for the first time but it was several hours earlier and I'd given him a bath right after getting home...not a clue. Glad that's over, I hope.

It does sound like an allergic reaction. Were the peas a different brand or anything? If they were, they might have extra ingredients in there that he doesn't agree with. If not, he might just be developing an allergy to peas. Other than that I don't know what to tell you. Maybe try giving him the same peas again, and watch for a similar reaction. I know it sounds scary, "WHy would I do that to my child again??!!!" but it might help figure out or cancel out what it could have been. Good luck and I am happy to hear he is doing much much better!

Nope, nothing different the same brand, same everything. Maybe he is developing an allergic reaction...my brother says that peas "make his tongue itch". But so far DS has had no problems with them. I'll definitely try to give them to him again just to see what happens, but I think I'll wait a couple days. DH said he was using bleach and may not have washed it all off of his hands, so maybe there was a little bit of bleach on his hands and that's what he reacted to...other than the peas and bleach the only thing he had was formula...and I gave the formula to him again and he's fine still, it's the same brand same kind still.
