Ovulation

by lheid, May 28, 2008 11:10AM
Alright... I have a question... I dont have my periods but 3-4 times a year. Now, my lmp was feb 19, 2008. They have run all kinds of test on me, and have come to the conclusion that my hormone levels are a little elevated, and thats what is throwing my periods off. My questions is, if I am not getting my periods... does it mean that my body isnt ovulating?

Not neccisarily(sp) you could possibly Ovulate with one of the 3 or 4 you do get. The best way I know how is to take your temp everyday after your period and chart them, your body temp usually rises 1 or 2 degrees? when you ovulate, you can also buy an at home ovulation predictor kit.

I wish you the best and hope you remain healthy.

thanks for the reply.. i think i am going to try and start charting my temps, and maybe try and see if i can see a pattern. but 1 more question... kind of confusing... but in order for my body to get a period do i need to ovulate? we are ttc now, and if i am not ovulating every month, then that makes its hard to determine on when is the most important. I am sorry for all of the questions but i am kinda new to the whole ttc thing.

Yes, if you are getting a period, I believe that means that you are ovulating since that is what a period is is the unfertilized egg released during ovulation.  If you are having periods only 3 or 4 times a year, I'm sure you are ovulating, just not every month like the average woman.  That doesn't mean you can't get pregnant.  It just means that you may have a harder time with not knowing when you are ovulating or when to expect it.

I suggest doing what BTS said as far as charting.  That is a great way to establish a pattern.  This way you can also take your charts to your doctor as that is probably what he/she would have you do to start with.  My SIL had this problem for a while.  The doc told her that she would probably have a harder time getting pregnant for the same reason of not ovulating as often as the average woman.  Well, her and my bro ended up getting preggers only 3 months after they got married.  They have had 2 more since then making it a total of 3.  And they got married in 2001 if I remember correctly.

Soooo, try the charting and best of luck!!!!  Fertility Friend is a good website for this....
