Positive pregnancy test, then 5 days later had what I'm wondering to be implantation bleeding!

by Carebear1980, Apr 04, 2009 01:41PM
I've read on hear that a few people had a positive pregnancy test, then a few days later had what the doctor said was implantation bleeding. I am having the same thing happen to me. I got a positive pregnancy test(one that you can test a few days before your missed period) Now five days later (which is my expected period date) I had a couple spots of blood when I wiped after using the bathroom, then the next day had some egg-white like discharge(not much). Would this be the initial implantation or even maybe the embryo implanting even deeper. The bleeding was only that one time and was only a couple spots. I've read on hear that you get implantation bleeding 6-14 days after ovulation and you can't have a positive pregnancy test before the implantation, But on the other hand I've heard that you can have a positive pregnancy test, then have implantation bleeding right after. I took a test and it was negative, then took one two days later and it was positive, then 5 days after the positive pregnancy test had the spotting the ONE time. Whats going on? Can anyone shed some light on this for me, My first visit to the doctor isn't for another 3 weeks. Thank you SOOOO much.

Not all bleeding is implantation bleeding. This typically occurs 7-12 dpo, but it sounds like it might be what you're experiencing. Home pregnancy tests are so sensitive now that they can pick up very low levels of HCG. Also, it may take time for the blood to get out of your body (which is how some women get a positive and then spot).

Unless you've having heavy bleeding that is bright red, with clots, and intense cramping- I wouldn't worry. Just put your feet up and relax!

I believe, technically, that you can't get a positive until the embryo has implanted. So then, if that's the case, you wouldn't get implantation bleeding *after a positive test. I'm not 100% sure about that, but it makes sense.

Either way, if it's just light spotting, it's most likely not a problem. I had spotting a few times during the first couple of months. It was always brownish or pink, never bright red. And it was never a problem. I'm 23 weeks now, and all is well! Good luck!

SoCalTricia is absolutely correct - the embryo needs to implant before HCG can be produced and HCG is what is detected in a HPT.

I do not what oyu had was implantation bleeding, because that spotting would have taken place before your HPT test shows positive I think.

But any bleeding after you are in fact pregnant, could be due to many things....

When I first got pregnant back in 2006, we were very lucky and got pregnant right away.  I took a test and we were thrilled.  Three day later I had a little bleeding/spotting.  I went to the doctor and at that point I would have been in 5th week, but she couldn't see anything.  Bloodwork numbers didn't climb appropriately and two days later I basically had my period and was no longer pregnant.  My doctor told me that many women think they are a few days late and never even know that they were infact pregnant.... I ovulated normally a few weeks later and about 6 weeks after the original positive HPT, I had another one....and this time it resulted in my DD :)

I have no idea what your bleeding is due to, but if you have any bleeding you should go to doctor.
