Question About Pregnancy Tests/Missed Period

by tinydreams22, Oct 05, 2009 08:10PM
Okay. If you get pregnant say.. a few days before you would normally have your period, and you don't get it.. but you take a pregnancy test the day of your missed period, could the test be accurate? I mean, would it be able to pick it up that soon even if you did miss your period? Or would you have to wait the normal month or so to find out? I hope you guys get what I mean, I think I described what I meant right.. Lol..

Most of the pregnancy tests out there now claim that you get an accurate result 5 days before your missed period....Try the digital.....they freak you out as you're watching the little hour glass move, but there's no guessing with those....If you get negatives but are still concerned and think that you may be preggo....wait another week or so and try another HPT...or you could always get blood testing done....good luck to you.

I just re-read this.....You think that may have gotten pregnant right before your period??  Sorry....good thing I looked at this again..Anyway, MOST women do not ovulate that soon before a period...meaning that you wouldn't be able to conceive unless you were ovulating...the majority of women ovulate about mid-cycle...(1/2 way between periods)...Not to say that it COULDN'T happen....but I would think it's not too likely.....But yeah, try a HPT in a week or so anyway!  Sorry about the confusion...My brain is not working tonight!  :o)

Lol, it's okay! That's what I thought, but I'm not sure with a lot of this stuff. Just trying to figure out why I still haven't gotten it. Lol. I need to go to the doctors but my OB/GYN is a ***** and her nurses are too, lol. They're all snotty and rude if you're like under 25 and on bc, I swear.. Lol.

No, you would get a negative. If you ovulate late your period will come later, too. You ovulate about 14 days BEFORE your period (NOT AFTER!!!). Such a common misconception, which is why many women have trouble getting pregnant. They assume midway through the cycle is ovulation time and that's just not the case unless you have a typical 28-day cycle and other factors haven't affected your ovulation time (such as stress).

The rule is to test about 2 weeks after ovulation, regardless of when you think your period is to arrive. As I said, if you know when you ovulate and you ovulate late, then your period will be late.
