Second Hand Smoke

by Kelly87, Dec 05, 2007 07:46PM
My boyfriend has a medical marj license in California and smokes occasionally during migraines. Is the second hand smoke bad for the baby?

I doubt it personally although I'm no expert. there is no solid evidence that marijuana smoke is even harmful to a growing fetus, other than to in some cases develop attention problems.. and in extreme cases [they think, like i said, no solid evidence and no direct studies performed] increased risk of certain cancer. However, this is only in women who most likely smoke it themselves pretty much daily. Anyway, Something in the Cannabis has been scientifically proven recently to actually stop or slow growths of some cancers, only proven so far in breast cancer.. Anyways, just to let you know i don't think there's a really big threat.. the reason they are so against being in contact at all during pregnancy is pretty much because no one knows..

[of course other than the fact it's illegal and any other reason you can think of.]

Well... everything you touch gets absorbed into your skin and sent into the placenta to baby. Also, everything you breath in, eat, drink, etc. gets delivered in smaller doses to the baby. In order for an inhalant to affect baby, you'd have to either be smoking it yourself for a while, or sitting in the smoke for a few hours. Best bet is to have him smoke outside (if you have someplace private so neighbors aren't calling police) or have him go someplace else. Better safe than sorry!!!

my friends partner smoked ALOT of marj around her while she was pregnant and we are talking like 200 bucks a day pretty much he never moved out of the lounge room just sat there smoking and dealing ... ANYWAYS long story straight her son was born 4 pound 3 ounces ( TINY) her daughter was born 3 pound 9 ounces (EVEN SMALLER) and her third child was born 8 pound 6 ounces ... first two kids she had full term while living with him ... third child she kicked his pathetic butt to the curb and was around no smoke for the rest of her pregnancy and her third son was born a giant ... so while there maybe no research in the marj and pregnancy area i would aviod as best i can but my mates partner at that time was a complete loser and did nothing but smoke and make babies ...

if its only some times i suppose it might not hurt ... safer not to risk it

Never heard of anything like that before, interesting.  A friend of mine actually smoked it herself for a good while. I think she quit recently and she's now uhm, about five months or so.. So, we'll see when her baby comes out what he looks like...

Well Femmie, how do you know your friend's partner who smoked just didn't have bad genes? because the only thing i know is proven is the amount and quality of sperm, the marijuana smoke effects.. perhaps after she kicked him out, that's why.. so, was her third son also his or someone elses ? this could have nothing to do with the smoke during her pregnancy..
