Sore Throat....Restlessness.....HELP!!

by Lance06, Oct 01, 2008 07:15AM
So, for the past 24 hours I have had a really bad sore throat. My throat looks red and it hurts when I swallow. I am all congested and cant breath, which means I cant sleep because I wake up so many times having to blow my nose only for it to clog back up again!!!

Is there anything I can take? Throat drops? Decongestant?? ANYTHING!!

My OB office is not open yet so I am looking for some input before I actually talk to them....

any help would be much appreciated because I am at work and pretty much am going to be no use today because I got no sleep!

do you have any mucus draining in the back of your throat? , or headache, toothache, sinus pressure and pain? if so try the neti pot mucinex d , honey and lemon(works like robintussin)  but  if its scrathcy and beefy red  and looks like a strawberry then most likely it's strep throat with white pus or whiite spots on the tonsils or back of throat. then you will need to be seen by the doctor or np hope i helped.

I have mucus draining down the back of my throat, pressure, and everytime I try to clear my throat to get the **** out it makes me dry heave....I cant really see my throat right now..but my husband said it looked red.....
Im really hoping its not strep because theres really nothing pregnant women can take to get rid of it.
I have a call into the doc but it normally takes them a bit to get back to you...so I am anxiously awaiting their call.
thanks for the response.

you might just have post nasal drip ask about mucinex  and if its safe. if you dont have anyw hite back there then most like it's not strep and if the strip in the back of the throat is yellow then most likely its post nasal drip. i work at a clinic and run plenty of strep test every day. i'm a medical assistant.so when i screen the patient i aske them they're sx  and then i look back there even if the throat doen't look beefy red and swollen with the white bumps i still run ther test.  or no fever either. welll best of look try soem warm salt water and gargle with it. to soothe the pain. chicken broth or if you like cold try a popscile.

no prob. as you know with doctors over precrining antibotics at my clionic if a patient tells me how long they've been sick and start describing sinus issue. we recommend trying mucinex , neti pots, if it's not a true sinus infection. has to be over a week to ten days. along with all of the pressure and pain headaches, ear pain, post nasal drip,  tooth ache.  if the patient keeps taking antibotics the body builds up a resistance and we try to prevent that. yeah some patient get mad but if they don't need it we don't give it. good luck sweetie if you have any other questions then feel free to pm me or add me as a friend.
