Trying to Concieve - Vitamins etc

by MyNameIsCat, Jul 08, 2009 08:48AM
Hi there,

I'm 30, happily married and recently came off the mini pill to TTC.

I think my cycle has already gone back to my pre-pill cycle as on the pill I was 1/2 day cramp, 2.5 days period.  However after a week or 2 off the pill I just finished a 5.5 day cycle with 2 days of absolutely crippling cramp (which I used to get before being put on the pill over 10 years ago) so fingers crossed i'm a lucky one.

Anyway my question is what is the best things to take for TTC.

I'm currently on Wellman multivits, which contains 400mcg of folic acid, and also take a separate 400mcg folic acid plus a 50mg B6.

Is there anything else I should be taking or do I have myself pretty well covered?

Hi!!! Sorry to hear about your wicked cramps that is so not fun!!!!!

I always took a strict regiment of vitamins.  First off, start on some Prenatals it is never to early to get on those.  For the first half of my cycle from CD 1(Cycle Day)- Ovulation Day I would take Evening Primrose Oil and then from CD15 (or after o day)- Until AF I would take Flaxseed Oil.  I found this helped regulate my cycle big time and the EPO helped in producing more cervical mucus and the Flaxseed helped put more progesterone in my body which is needed to sustain a healthy pregnancy.

Good luck and I hoped this helped!!!!

I was just on the pre-natal vitamins and everything seems to be fine.  It looks like you've got yourself covered, but I would talk to a doctor and let them know if what you're taking is good.  Some people need more folic acid than others... some need iron...  just let your doctor know and they will be able to tell you if you're on the right path.

Easier said than done, my doc is a nightmare!

They moved onto an automated system which only seems to give you appts 2 weeks in advance.  So far each time I made an appt I get a letter a week later saying they can't do it so please reschedule...ARGH!

NHS - useless! lol

Well you could find a different doctor.

As far as vitamins- you'll want to take a prenatal and a folic acid.

Tried that...they give the "your not in our area" excuse.  I had a good doctor near my office when I lived closer to work but as soon as we moved they deleted us from their books without telling us.  Only found out when I tried to make an appt :/

Stupid thing is our doctors has around 9-10 actual doctors in the practice, but rarely any appts...it's mad!
