Ultrasound @ 5-6 weeks

by Schatje74, Dec 21, 2007 11:44PM
This is my third pregnancy.  I have two beautiful girls age 13 and 11.  I had a cone biopsy 11 years ago and thought I was sterile..so this pregnancy is amazing for me.  I started bleeding about 4 days ago.  Brown spotting at first....then heavier.  Doc did and ultrasound and baby was still in uterine.  They said baby was small around 4-5 weeks not 6 weeks as thought and they could not make out a Yoke Sac.  They are running HCG tests now.  The bleeding got worse after the intervaginal ultrasound and I had quite a bit of irritation when the wand was inserted.  Which led the doc to believe it was vaginal bleeding not uterine.  My question, is it normal to not see a yoke sac but see a baby? And just because a baby is small does that mean it is not viable?

Its possible that you ovulated later than you thought and that you are really only 4-5 weeks. At that point you wouldn't see much. Also, bleeding can be completely normal in pregnancy. I bled bright red worse than a period for 5 weeks straight during the beginning of my pregnancy and I'm now 39 weeks. I would say wait until you get the HCG results back since that should give you a little more info and you might want to schedule another ultrasound in a week or two to see if things progress. Best of luck I'll keep you in my prayers and please let us know how it turns out.
