Very low rising HCG but 2 ultrasounds show heartbeat. What's going on???

by wanttobemommy, Apr 24, 2008 07:11PM
I don't know what to think right now.  The nurse kept telling me I was going to have a miscarriage until this past Monday when  the 2nd ultrasound results seemed odd but positive.
I am 6w6d pregnant today.  My HcG is going up very slowly.  It has never doubled.  It was:
2015 on 4/3
2757 on 4/7
2849 on 4/10
3736 on 4/14
4100 on 4/18
? on 4/24
Yes..a lot of blood tests.  I had an ultrasound on 4/14 and 4/21 - exactly 1 week apart.  There was a heartbeat both times and it positively increased from 107 to 128.  Development was normal. They said I was 5w6d on the 14th and 6w4d on the 21st.  Not sure if that 2 day difference is bad?  The nurse didn't even talk about that.  I am so worried and the wait is so hard.  I didn't go to work this week and don't know if I should stay home one more week?  No real miscarriage signs.  A little brown spotting on toilet paper.  Nurse gave me progesterone pills the other day.  Is this weird?  Have you heard of this before without a miscarriage?

I have heard of peoples levels not even close to doubling and going on to have a full healthy pregnancy. I don't want to give you false hope though because it doesn't happen very often. I will keep you in my prayers and hopefully everything will work out for you and your little one.

as long as your hcg is increasing do not worry about the numbers. if you have a heartbeat all is well. the number itself is fairly useless unless a pregnancy is failing. the ultrasound dates can be off by several days as well. you can return to work if you feel well. i know it is hard to wait but this is not unusual. it drives me nuts when ob/gyns overtest, which is what has happened. the nurse NEVER should tell anyone they are miscarrying unless a clear DROP in hcg is occuring.

Ive said this before, my nurse told me that once they see the heart beat 2 times 1 week apart chance of miscarriage is low...BUT it does happen, we all know that once they got that far with me on the heart beats they stopped testing me said that ultrasound was more accurate....Good Luck, Ive had a miscarried and its horrible, and still with this pregnancy I worry about it every day..Ive made it way passed the first pregnancy, also they put me on progesterone this time

How was your test result?

I just went through an ectopic pregnancy. I just stopped bleeding today as a mater of fact. but my levels were doing the same thing. they went from 126 then a week later they went to 363 then 48 hrs later to 477. Then they started to fall back down, but slowly. Did the u/s tech see the baby? just wondering, because im not sure if you can hear a heartbeat with an ectopic. I hope all turns out well with you & you have a healthy 9 months :)

There is hope.  My hcg went up to 7100.  Didn't double but wnt up the most it has.  Up 3,000 from Fri. to Thurs.  Prog. went from 13 to 30.  The Prog. pills probably caused that.  Yes, we have pics from the u/s of the baby.  It grew the way it was supposed to from last week to this week.  I have another u/s Monday.  I hope it's good news.  I will feel so much better then.  Thank you for your good words.  I am so sorry to hear about your ectopic.  Isn't that where it develops in the wrong place?

My mom works in a hospital lab and my older sis is currently preg. again with her 2nd baby.  My mom has always told me that as long as your hcg goes up (even if it's slow) you should be in good hands. I wouldn't stress out over it. Every girl's body is different... remember that! I think you'll be okay. Stressing out can cause a miscarriage so take it easy.  Think positive thoughts. I hope your pregnancy continues and things goes wonderful for you. Good luck to you!!

I am gone until next time,  No heartbeat today, though it grew on schedule.  Weird.  It must have died right before my ultrasound today.  Very sad.

i have last ultrasound thursday for my own piece of mind.  and d&c Tuesday.  I can't believe all that we have been through in the last month.  i guess i should say me and not we.  my husband is supportive but I don't feel like he has had any feelings about any of this.  it's not happening to this body.  anyway, i was thinking today, as i research to find others in my situation, i have has a small amount of brown spotting, but no cramps or major bleeding and the baby grew to where it should be as of that last u/s.  my hcg went up 1100 from last thurs. to monday, which isn't anywhere near doubling but I have not doubled at anytime during this pregnancy and things progressed.  I don't know.
