We got to the hospital around 2am and I was dilated to around 4 or 5 cm. Previously I had been 2cm and 90% thinned so this was good progress and I was admitted. They monitored for 30 minutes and then let me get in the tub. I labored in the tub for about 45 minutes and at 3:30am I returned to the bed. The nurse checked and I was at 7cm!! She said the doc wanted a call to come in when I was at 8cm due to my history with fast births and so she was going to check me again around 4:10. When she did I was still a 7 but baby had come down farther and she said the bag of waters was "bulging". She suspected that I would go quickly if or when the my water broke and called the doctor to come in at 4:30am. He arrived at 4:45 and broke my water. He said after he did this I went right to 9cm. I did 2 contractions and then they had me start to push around 5:10am. The first two pushes didn't feel like they were doing anything and I told the doctor it didn't feel right. He checked and said there was a lip of the cervix yet to dilate and he pushed it out of the way. Just as he did this I pushed again and all of a sudden the baby was crowning! He had me stop pushing and breath to give me a second to stretch (FELT LIKE FOREVER!!!) then let me push her head out. Such relief! I had to pause again then so they could suction her good as she had pooped prior to birth and they needed to make sure she didn't inhale/swallow the meconium. This wasn't nearly as bad as the contraction was over. He finished and with one more push she was out!!! Born at 5:15am after only about 5 hours of active labor...maybe 2 hours of hard labor. I had a small tear only which required just a few stitches. They took a couple extra minutes to clear her airways etc, and she pinked up right away! Luckily no problems with her having had a bm before birth!
She was 9lbs 4 oz and 20 inches long. We named her Mira Christine (pronounced Meerah)! Our first boy was 8lbs 10 oz and our second was 8lbs 5 oz but they were both 10 days early so I think her size was pretty expected and just right for coming on her due date!
When I went into her labor I was very much dreading transition and the pain etc. I knew if I wanted to go without drugs I needed to really assess that dread and keep my emotions calm. Throughout the labor I focused very hard with each contraction saying in my head "one at a time, one at a time, etc" which really helped me to keep a rhythm and stay calm. I don't think this labor was any less intense then my last one, but staying calm made it so much more manageable. I really felt in control (on the verge of losing control if I didn't really concentrate, but in control none the less). I think that really helped it to be as gentle of a birth as was realistic. I'm soo glad it's over and she's here, but it was really a wonderful experience and I'm soo thankful for that. She's been nursing like crazy and my milk started coming in only 24 hours after she was born. It's in fully now and she's sure enjoying eating and sleeping like a champ!
This is the only picture I have right now and my hair is a little insane, but Mira looks good!
Thanks for reading our story! So happy to share it and have her here!!!
