Weird hip pain (similar post I know)

by Kimberlee_20, Jan 18, 2009 10:01PM
I don't know if it's my ligaments stretching in my hips/ lower back or if it's something I should mention to my doctor, it's almost like a cramp, if I sleep on one side too long it hurts, then the other side. It was just happening while I slept now I get it a lot at work when I move a certain way, it sends like a split second knife - stabbing kind of pain, and it's going from hip to hip. Anyone else have this problem or should I talk to my doctor??

Oh I forgot to mention I'm 15 weeks today - don't know if that makes a difference

Try sleeping with a pillow between your knees.  Someone posted about hip pain earlier this morning - it's super common.  I had one hip that REALLY bothered me, the left one.  You could also try proping one hip with a pillow so you're not flat on your back.

It's almost like staying there during the day now though, if I move a certain way it hurts, and if I lay a certain way, is that normal too??

That's how mine was - it seems to be worse when there's a high pressure front moving through.  Crossing my legs was rough - so I'd literally have to sit still with my left leg straight out and that always seemed to help...  Good luck sleeping tonight~!  For sure put pillow between your legs. If that doesn't work put it under a hip...

I know there are places online where you can get pregnancy pillows, my mom got me one similar to what I see on the websites and it really seemed to help during my 1st pregnancy.

You can try the pillow between your legs. That worked for me. Have you ever had back problems before? Do mention it to your doctor. I have problems with a few discs in my lower back and the pain radiates from my back down to my hip sometimes and/or leg. Good luck! I hope it's not your case, just a thought.

I've never had back pain before I got pregnant, except around my period, I'm hoping the pillow between my legs will work! Hopefully it takes away the pain throughout the day. Where do you get pregnancy pillows, I've looked everywhere!

Did you check online, honey? Perhaps you can just use a regular pillow; the jumbo ones :)

Yeah I looked on the other post about hip pains, (I reposted because I'm muuuuch less into my pregnancy than she is, so I didn't know if the weight of the baby/other things mattered as much) - anyway, I saw the post a few times to get the "snoogle" pillow and I looked it up, MAN do I need one of those! haha - I'm sure I'll end up getting it :] Thank you for the advice!

I got that too, just like you descibed, a snoogle ( prego pillow) between the legs helps and I just got a wedge pillow which is quite comfy. My chiroprator said its totally normal its just the body stretching.

FYI...I'm the other hip pain person...I NEVER had it before pregnancy, never had any back issues and like I said, it has been slowly getting worse as the weeks pass...Mine lasts into the day too...I've been up for an hour and my hips are still achy...It is a combo of the relaxed tendons and muscles  as well as the added pressure of your lower body changing.  Even during the day, your hips and lower back are taking on the brunt of these changes.  Try the pillows though...I suffered way to long before I asked the ladies here for help!

Have you ever heard of sciatica? Look it up and see if it sounds like what you are experiencing, I had it really bad when I was pregnant with Noah, there isn't much you can do for it but I would just make sure I stayed active going for walks everyday and that helped a lot. It is very common to experience sciatic nerve pain when pregnant.

I know - I've never had hip pains, and I'm a small girl, according to my OB it's going to be a big baby, DH is NOT small by no means. He's big (not fat, muscular) and talllll - I was having back pains that would hurt from when I woke up until whenever they decided to go away, and I found it was from sleeping on my back and the weight of the baby/uterus on my back was hurting it - now my hips! If it's not one thing it's another, I tried a pillow between my legs last night it actually really helped some so I think I'm going to get the snoogle. Hopefully it works!!
