Well good news and bad news..please read

by luvmybabes, Nov 02, 2009 01:46PM
I went to the doctor I found out I am 6 weeks pregnant ...with Idenical twins.. The bad news is one had a heart beat and one didn't. One measured 6 wks 3 days and one measured 6 wks.  My doctor made me an ultrasound appt. in 2 weeks to check on both babies. what are the chances that one baby is just developing a little slower then the other. They were actually suprised to see a heart beat at all on either one. Give me your input please.

from everything i've read and heard, a lot of women didn't pick up heartbeats on singletons until 7wks on ultrasound, much less for twins. I wouldn't give up or despair yet, and I know how hard that seems, but from what I've read on the forums since I saw your post, I think you should wait and see....on fertility community there are a LOT of "No heartbeat at 6 wks!!!" posts with answers that say "we didn't get a heartbeat until 7wks 1 day" or something of the sort. Good luck, and MAJOR congrats on twins!!!

you said your doctor didn't expect to see a heartbeat, so just remember that you're lucky to see one heartbeat and don't worry about the other baby yet!

keep us posted!

It's too soon to know for certain but it's quite possible to not pick up the heartbeat of the second twin this early on.

by Sunkissed19, Nov 02, 2009 02:09PM
oh geez, you knew it was twins lol! thats crazy that u could tell....ive been super ill my whole pregnancy and i was super nervous there was gonna be two babies in me but i only got one that im thinking must be a little drama queen girl lol! like ashleen said, i wouldnt worry at all....6 weeks is early to see a heartbeat and you saw one....and its usually like that with twins where one is slightly behind the other in development! just sit tight until the next one....now that they know its twins you'll get more u/s! happy and healthy 9 months.....and dont be scared you can do it! two is hard but its also twice a blessing....i nanny multiples and i know how stressful it can be but with two babies...its like twice the love...you get two little ones smiling to see you everyday....its really amazing...truly!

by luvmybabes, Nov 02, 2009 02:18PM
Thanks guys.... It feels good to read these because I am so afraid. I want both babies. I am really hoping on is behind the other in development too. I hope it isn't vanishing twin syndrome...my doctor said that I can still hope ..he has seen stranger things happen but its not likley that twin number 2 will have a heart beat next time. I pray though!!

by Sunkissed19, Nov 02, 2009 02:23PM
i think baby number 2 will have a heartbeat next time! just stay positive! the mother that i nanny for has twin boys and when she was pregnant with them they didnt even see baby number 2 at her first u/s didnt see him or hear his heartbeat....she thought she was only having one baby until her 16 week u/s when she got the shock of her life and there was suddenly two babies in there! the little bugger had just been hiding the whole time! so i wouldnt worry until after u see the result of the next u/s....i think u will be pleasantly surprised!

by Lucey12, Nov 02, 2009 02:36PM
I cant believe you had a feeling it was twins and were right! All on a feeling. huh mothers intuition eh? WOW. I dont think you should worry. Ive hear that you can drop more than one egg in a month so you could have conceived two different days (in your case 3 days apart)
So were you bigger than you should with one or what, how did you know?

by Lucey12, Nov 02, 2009 02:37PM
Never mind, I just reread it and you said identical, huh. Fingers crossed all goes well.

by Rosa20, Nov 02, 2009 03:32PM
It could be just that they measured the baby wrong! did  you get an ultrasound pic??

by luvmybabes, Nov 02, 2009 04:20PM
Yes I am bigger and I have gained 5 pounds already my belly is looking like 3 or 4 months. I have been very very sick not throwing up just neauseous. I am so tired and my boobs hurt and I have had such emotional ups and downs it is crazy. but most of all I just knew it was twins.. I had a stron feeling...there was no doubt in my mind. I even prayed that my " babies" would be okay....even before I found out today. I wasn't suprised it was two because I knew it all along. I really couldn't beleive that I knew though...it's strange that I knew I agree. Thank you all for your support. It means alot to me.

by blueeyedtabbycat, Nov 02, 2009 05:13PM
Im sure it was just too early to see the heartbeat of twin B. You will have more luck at your next u/s!! Have fun with those babies!! BTW- you will get tons of u/s's because you are pregnant with twins!!!

by luvmybabes, Nov 02, 2009 05:18PM
That is what I am hoping. That it was too early. But I am afraid since they are indentical that I should have seen them both. I hope they are ok. I hope hope hope.

by luvkayln, Nov 02, 2009 05:25PM
It's actually very common that this happens! The one that's measuring behind probably implanted a little late and that's why you didn't see a h/b yet. I have a friend on here who this happened to, and now she's 18 weeks pregnant with both babies! :) I can't believe they're making you wait 2 weeks tho! That's just pure torture right there! I have a feeling you'll see both h/b's in 2 weeks, but I understand your worry! Hang in there and enjoy your pregnancy! :)

you think they implanted different times even though they are Identical??

by Rosa20, Nov 02, 2009 05:46PM
they could of! lol i guess nothing is impossible!! haha Thats too cute that you look 3-4 mmonths pregnant...you should post a pic of your belly so we can all see and vote!! lol You never awnsered my question...did they give you a ultrasound pic of the twins?

by Rosa20, Nov 02, 2009 05:47PM
oh and how can they tell they are identicle..it could be that there not you never know !

by luvmybabes, Nov 02, 2009 05:51PM
Because they are in the same sac so my doctor said they are indentical

There are 2 (3 technically but the 3rd is super rare) different ways that identical twins can develop and be carried:

With the first case there is only one placenta that feeds the babies, but there can be two amniotic sacs (as in the diagram at the side).  When there is 1 placenta and 2 amniotic sacs then the pregnancy is referred to as having a "mono-chorial" placenta and is "bi-amniotic".

In the second scenario, there is only one amniotic sac.  In the case of 1 placenta and 1 amniotic sac then the pregnancy is referred to as having a "mono-chorial" placenta and is "mono-amniotic".

so the second one is luvmybabes case and thats how the tech knew they were identical because you can see them sharing a sack....fraternal twins have all their own business lol

by Sunkissed19, Nov 02, 2009 05:58PM
sorry...no diagram lol ignore that...i was copy pasting lol

by Ashelen, Nov 02, 2009 06:09PM
awesome. who needs pictures? or real diagrams? Or even fake diagrams? imaginary diagrams all the way!!

by Ashelen, Nov 02, 2009 06:11PM
gr. I had also typed^ *inserts diagram with two bubbles, a stick figure baby in each, and another bubble shared between the two* but as I used "" it magically disappeared into the ethers. oh well, my joke didn't come off as intended :'(

by luvmybabes, Nov 02, 2009 06:13PM
hahaha ashelen that's funny!!
Well I can't stop worrying. I wish I could stop thinking about the babies. Now I am worrying that if one twin doesn't make it will the other one be ok?

by luvmybabes, Nov 02, 2009 06:25PM
I do have a feeling that My little baby will have a beating heart next time we go to match its twin. And I had a feeling it was twins soo maybe I will be right. I Love them already. And its funny I never wanted twins until I got them and now I would do anything to make sure they are both ok

by Ashelen, Nov 02, 2009 06:35PM
you should definitely trust your mommy's intuition...trust in yourself and it'll see you through all of this. maybe they're girls, because girls are tough little buggers ;).

by luvmybabes, Nov 02, 2009 08:02PM
if anyone else has opinions on this I would love you to comment thanks

by luvmybabes, Nov 02, 2009 08:27PM
I just read a post where a women was pregnant with Identical twin girls and one was always a week behind in development. Makes me more hopeful!!

by Crysi, Nov 02, 2009 11:22PM
From what I have ever read/ heard about one twin always is behind the other. How nutrition goes to them I guess. All it goes on is how big the baby is, and how often are twins born at the same height/ weight? I wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure that next time there will be two beating hearts and two happy swimming babies!

by Linzola1, Nov 03, 2009 11:43AM
I dont know much about twin pregnanccy but I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers!!! Its amazing with Mothers intuition! God Bless and keep us posted!

by luvmybabes, Nov 03, 2009 02:52PM
yes it is amazing. I have been all over the internet and can't find much on Identical twins. I am trying to find something that says that their hearts can start beating at different times but I can't. I don't know if I can wait 2 weeks.

by luv_babies, Nov 03, 2009 04:01PM
Hopefully they are not sharing the same amniotic sac. That makes for quite the dangerous pregnancy, it is also quite rare. I have identical twin boys that did not share the amniotic sac, but shared a placenta. The membrane that separated them is quite thin and can be hard to see. Essentialy there are two sacs. The amniotic sac and the chorionic sac.

6 Weeks it quite early for an US, so try to hold out the two weeks and get ready for the most doctor appointments you have ever had! Starting at 18 weeks I had an US every two weeks to monitor them. It was great to get to see them so often. Good Luck!

by luvmybabes, Nov 04, 2009 05:37PM
I don't know if I can make it two weeks. It is killing me. I hate this and hate the fact doctors do this. Why couldn't they make it one week. I am sure you can tell if the embryo is growing in a week :-(
