Went off pill mid-wee... now confused.. HELP

I stopped taking my birth control pills mid pack (after the first 4 pills) and within 4 days, got my period (not sure if it was a period, because it was more like 3 days of heavy bleeding). Does this mean that I will ovulate according to this period/bleeding that I just had, or my normal month to month period?

If going by my first period, I should have got my period this past Tuesday (its Sunday).  I took a pregnancy test this morning and still says negative.  Am I late, should i go by the second period/bleeding, or is my body all messed up?  

We are trying to conceive in the next few months, so I am trying to figure out when I am ovulating.  I have been on the pill non stop for 14 years and I am nervous it is going to take forever to get pregnant.

I am really not sure what to actually count that bleeding as..................I have been told though that it is not actual period bleeding, but that your body was a bit confused because of stopping the pill in a cycle.  I had the EXACT same thing happen and we wanted to get pregnant also.  I quit my pill mid cycle on October 20th and a few days later had some bleeding and then we got pregnant!  I never had another period and had NO CLUE when I even ovulated so we got lucky.  It can happen that way sometimes--I am proof:)  I hope that helps some!  I had negative HPTs though all the way up until the end of November and I am now 14 weeks along.  Crazy!
