When will I have a reliable test result?

by curious989, Nov 06, 2009 10:32PM
Hello! This is my first time on here, seems to have tons of valuable information listed. My boyfriend and I had sex October 17th and I was due to start my period the following Sunday which would've been October 25th. On the 26th I bled a very little amount and stopped and my doctor considered it to be spotting. Then on the 27th I bled even less to where I didn't even need a pantyliner, JUST IN CASE! I went to the doctor to get more birth control pills and she said for me to take a pregnancy test just in case there was a september conception. That test came back negative. She said it would be too soon to tell if I conceived on the night of the 17th because it had only been 11 days. I never did get my period and I have been nauseous everyday for the last 2 weeks. It happens everyday, it comes and it goes. I just in the past 3-4 days have been getting really lightheaded and sometimes dizzy too. I took a clearblue digital test on the beginning of my second week of possible conception and it was negative. Tomorrow will be the beginning of my fourth week. When can I take a test again and it be a reliable answer. I ahve been told that decent levels of the HCG hormone dont show up until about 3 weeks. I am so tired of waiting, I need to know if I am so I can breathe. I also need to know if i am not so I dont have to worry about what medicines to take and what not to lift and etc. Please help?

i know waiting can be VERY difficult, but i say give it another wk to take a test, and if it still comes back negative go to the doctors and request a blood test, it will be the most accurate. The signs your showing can very well mean your pregnant. good luck with everything and keep us posted :) oh the bleeding you had, could have been implantation bleeding or like your doctor said spotting, which is common for alot of women in early pregnancy.

Typically a standard test will detect pregnancy about 14 days after conception.  Its advisable to use first morning urine and I recommend a good, sensitive test for better accuracy.

Yeah, I would say pregnancy is a big possibility. Try using a test that isn't digital, because the regular tests show the lines. And even if its really early there should be a line even if its really faint. I used the First Response ones because you can test earlier. The line won't be as strong, but it will still be there. And the generic ones are not as good. The box says they're comparable but if you compare them the percentages of women who tested positive before their missed peroid were lower on the generic than on the name brand one. And the generic ones fade ater 10 hours. The First Response ones are very reliable and the lines stay for..well I still have the 2 I tested postive on in August from my m/c. And the lines are still just as strong as when I took them.

Thanks so much guys. I always thought that the digital would be better but i surely understand the line thing. I took the second digital one this morning and it was neg again. I just don't understand why I've been feeling like this if there's not a wee one in my tummy! lol. I will keep you guys posted and I think come next saturday, when I will be 4 weeks past the possible conception, I will go buy a FR. I remember seeing different types of the first response. Does it matter, or just the good ol' original FR?
