Yeast Infection

Yeast Infection

I have a mild yeast infection and I am 29 weeks pregnant.  My doctor gave me two doses of flucanazole of 150 mg.  I am scared to take the medication because of what I have been reading on line.  Although there is not enough studies on the affects of the drug on human babies, I really don't want to take the chance.  My question is, is leaving a yeast infection harmful to my baby??

Thank you,

Olga

Yes, leaving a yeast infection is harmful to your baby, you're at an increased risk of premature labor if you leave an infection untreated. Your doctor would not have given you the medicine if he didn't feel it was safe for you to take. I also had these questions when I had an infection, I called the pharmacist and everything, and he assured me it was okay to take, if that would make you feel better mention it to a pharmacist. Either way, the yeast infection needs to be treated or it will lead to muchhhh worse problems.

It's not only bad for you and the baby but it is also very uncomfortable to live with for the rest of your pregnancy if you don't get it treat it and under control. Also, while giving birth...if you happen to have a yeast infection your baby can develop something called "thrush", which is no less than a yeast infection on the baby's cheeks and mouth! I would definitely trust your doctor, he's not going to prescribe something that will hurt your baby or put you at risk. But if you're still concerned or something doesn't feel right...talk to your OB/GYN and discuss it with him. That's what he's there for right?! Good Luck!
