anyone from baltimore area or know effects of being in smokey bar?

by krissyy, Apr 26, 2008 07:16AM
hi girls, tonight is my friend's bachelorette party.  in maryland, there is no more smoking in bars. however, someone told me that if the bar makes most of their profit from alcohol, smoking is allowed.  if there is smoking, will i be okay in that environment for a few hours?  i really want to be with my friends tonight, but i want to make sure it's safe.  i think the law allows no smoking anywhere in maryland so i think i will be okay...but those local to the area, do you know for sure if powerplant is smokefree?

I went to my friend bachelorette party last weekend.  It completely drained me!!  We started at 6pm, and by 11:30 I was home!!  It made me so tired!  Here the bars are not smoke free, so after a couple of hours, I started to get a headache!!  I think if you have to be around it for a little while, it probably won't hurt anything, other than your eyes and head!!  Try to have fun!!

The smoke may make you feel very sick. It is your body's way of telling you it is harmful to the baby. Did you know that your body will throw something up if it is unsafe for the baby? Isn't that so cool?! Totally a tangent, but had to share.

Anyway, you could try to go and just tell them you need to leave at some point. Hopefully there just won't be any smoking, you know?! At least try to be there for your friends and I'm sure they'll understand if you need to leave early!

I live in Towson, Maryland... which is 15 mins from the baltimore city.. and im pretty sure all of the bars are non-somking.. I still go out at least one night on the weekends both near my house and downtown, and i havent come across a place that still allows it.

precious-yea, i have a feeling that i am going to be pooped!  fortunately one of my friends is just 8 days behind me in her pregnancy so i will have a buddy that is in my same boat!

joyrenee-wow, that is so interesting that your body throws up stuff bad for baby!

kirby-thanks so much!  if the bars downtown are smokefree than powerplant should be as well!!  towson town center is my favorite mall!  i live in westminster (carroll county).

I think if your exposed once you'll be alright. Honestly... I think they worry about the effects of smoking on mothers who regularly smoke or are around it for a big part of theyr pregnancy.
BTW, If they don't know your pregnant.. or what not, just make the excuse that the smoke is triggering your allergies! (wink) then make your exit.

all my friends know that i am pregnant :-)  there was actually no smoking in the bar...the only smoke i was around was the small stream of people that were outside which wasn't a huge deal.  my obsession of the night ended up being if the loud music would hurt my babies ears!  i didn't even think about that!

whoops-i meant baby's ears, not babies ears...there is only one in there!!

lol.. be assured that the baby won't be hurt by loud music.... she may come out preferring one type to another tho!

I see by your page your 22weeks?   Your baby girl is FINE. :) sure.. they can hear mommies voice (because you ARE her house, literally) and daddies voice when it's raised/ or by the tummy.. But it's muffled. That cushion of amniotic fluid protects babies sensative ears.

I hope this helps!
