brown discharge after pap 7 weeks pregnant

by Krissy1428, Jul 04, 2009 02:12PM
Hey there. I'm probably up there among the most paranoid moms-to-be. My question is, I had a pap smear at 7 weeks and also an ultrasound that confirmed the baby's heartbeat on the same day. The doctor told me to expect light spotting that night. However, I did not experience spotting until last night (2 days later). It was only a little when I wiped after using the restroom. It was slightly brown in color, almost undetectable. I just wanted to see if anyone had experienced light brown spotting a couple of days after pap while pregnant. I had a miscarriage last year that started with brown spotting however there was no baby in the sac with that one. This time there is. Any response is appreciated.

This is completely normal and not anything to worry about.  Once a heartbeat is seen, the chances of having a miscarriage drop considerably (from about 25% to about 1%).

Congratulations!

It's normal to experience a little bleeding/discharge after an internal exam. Brown blood is old blood. If the flow becomes heavier, becomes bright red and/or has clots then definitely call the doctor. Otherwise I would just laze around, prop those feet up, and enjoy the day!
